England Under 21 Euro 2015 Thread

I don't think England are very good at football if I'm honest.

What doesn't help is the old pals act of management appointment.

Coping strategy is to blame them damn foreigners.
Our Under 17s won their Euro's last summer and the u16s won the Montiagu tournament this April.

Our lads do have talent, it just seems we lose our way (especially mentally) as they get older.

Actually Loftus-Cheek looks to have the talent as well.

But they really need a new Gazza. I wonder where one could be found.

they all get gifted too early. a full england cap doesn't mean much anymore - they'll have a friendly and you get about 7 or 8 making their debut - then at the same time they're getting rewarded at their clubs e.g. 40k a week after about 3 or 4 months of doing something good.

of course they're going to get big headed - they're all going to be a tad bit snobby being asked to come back down to the U21's. you should only really get a select few who have to go back down to the U21's after making a handful of full international apps - i.e. the ones who have proved they're not ready to make the step up.

i always use ozil as an example - such a vastly talented player and still so young - yet he really can't be arsed 80% of the time. he's nearly won it all already and he knows he can stroll around the pitch week in week out and will still earn about 80k - would you really bust a gut in his position if you're not that kind of person?

Tbh not really sure what causes it but even for the senior side don't think for the majority of players it isn't that they don't care or aren't trying.

Sometimes it can seem like they care too much and so play the safe pass as they know their every mishit move will get reanalysed to death in the media afterwards - just posted on the Stones thread an article the Daily Mail did on his performance alone.

The parallels with Everton are weird, Barkley played with joy and freedom in his first season under Martinez yet looked like a scared rabbit some of the time this last one - although some thought that was lack of effort as well so guess it depends how you interpret it.

I just think at that age it doesn't really show as much. I'd imagine the physical aspect plays a massive part at such tournaments.

We had a brilliant team in 2004 and 2006, maybe with a bit of luck/players being more in form we could have got to a semi final, but the current crop is nowhere the standard required.

Still think we're on the right track, or hope maybe. 1st time an u21 team has attempted to play joined up football and they played some nice stuff at times to be fair.

They played exactly the same way as all England teams try to. It just looks awkward for whatever reason.

We are so far away from being on the right track it's incredible, Hodgson still being in charge says it all.
