don't look into that too much friend... Ronaldhino is in those commercials and he isn't even at the tourny.

Face it. The financial imperative for Rooney and Nike was to have him playing at the World Cup. Both earn millions from him playing and lose millions if he doesn't.

All part of Paul Stretford's master plan.

THE WHOLE THING STINKS.

Regretting this a bit?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

The Sun. Wow. Just supreme idiocy on their parts. I'm sure a large amount (perhaps majority) of England supporters saw that headline and said, "Way to go Sun" meaning, "That was stupid."

You're spot on, mate. That's exactly why Dunga picked Ronaldinho in his squad despite his lack of form. Nobody can stand up to Nike at all.

Sorry, not meant to insult anyone, but that England team reminded me of the Arsenal of old. One word: Boring!

For 8m a year you should expect a lot more from your manager than those boring tactics and awful team selection.
You missed the main ingredient Dutch.. Fabio is Italian. They don't do exciting football. This said, given his pedigree I thought along with many others that Fabio would've worked it out a long time ago. None of the team on display today looked at all solid IMHO and for players earning upwards of 200K PW it shows how overrated/blinkered some are.. They should be ashamed.

Don't worry mate. No insult taken by me at least. You're dead right.

Its easy to fix but I'm not sure he will.

I think all the Blame should be on Capello.. he has said or done something in that locker room that has shattered the english team..

Agreed, England certainly harbours enough talent to overcome their group without to many problems. His squad selection and tactics destroyed England tonight. No doubting the mans credentials as a manager, but he doesn't fit England's needs at all.

Oh and good luck tomorrow mate.

Thanks mate, hope we'll be able to step up from our first game.

Name another big name for Nike in the England squad?

And Brazil - are exclusively sponsored by NIKE actually! Brazil's national football team gets $12 million for playing its famed "beautiful game" in Nike soccer shoes.

Walcott and Ronaldinho were both featured majorly in advertising and niether even made the squads. If everybody in football was bowing down to Nike's bully boys and their money that wouldn't have happened.

It's just paranoid bloody nonsense to suggest that they influence managers and physios and players to that extent. Scapegoatism, nothing more.

Don't be afraid, I didn't miss the main ingredient as you claim. I know Fabio is Italian and you have tio give them credit for the successes they craved out with their boring catenaccio style. Biggest difference with him coaching an Italian or English team is the way both camps have been brought up. The catenaccio is thought in schools over there in Italy, I honestly believe.

Rooney worried something similar would happen to his endorsements if he didn't play tonight:

Rooney not playing - meant he'd lose millions.

Rooney has lucrative contracts with Nike, Nokia, Ford, Asda, and Coca Cola. It's estimated that his marketing value clocks in at roughly $59.8 million, which makes him the third-highest rated player, only surpassed by Ronaldinho and David Beckham.

Can't see him playing in the world cup ? = ££££ Millions lost to him
