England v Australia - THE ASHES

two innings in a row and we haven't even gotten around to changing both opening bowlers.

also great to see the record for the shortest chars of surnames for a test first XI - something which i noted last week as a possibility. boss little guess.

Does anybody feel a bit left short from the past three Ashes tests? In 2013/14 we were pathetic, and Australia have been pretty pathetic this series. Just not watching the top quality sport that an Ashes series is supposed to have. Or perhaps the 2005 Ashes test being my first has spoilt me, or the regularity of the Ashes tests have spoilt the occasion somewhat.

I certainly agree with the regularity of them these days, but it all down to the ECB, Australia and India carving up the test calender to generate the most cash for their own boards.

The traditional 4 year cycle of playing everyone in, er, 4 years, looks dead and buried now. Shame.

Yup. It's losing its shine.

last ashes before 2019. i just remember this now after saying about england hopefully being dominant. that's a nice bit of luck for the aussies there. half of this team will be gone after this series and they have 4 years to get a team together.

i think the standard has been shocking. this is a poor aussie team, been saying it for a couple of years now, nobody's got runs outside the top 3, their next best batsmen are johnson and starc!

i think the fact all the tests has been so one-sided is why it hasn't been a great series, also with them all finishing pretty rapidly because everyone wants to play T20 instead of a proper test innings hasn't helped. the series has sort of defeated the object of the word "test"
