England v Australia - THE ASHES

Imagine turning up an hour late for that one.....

Remember my very first one day international. Got in and the West Indies were already 13-3 and Beefy had just taken the 3rd wicket. Viv Richards was just coming into bat though and scored 189 so I caught the best bit.

Old Trafford 1984, WI were something like 110-9 and Holding stayed in with Viv while he created carnage. One of the greatest innings ever.

There must be a series in Australia before then surely.

yeah sorry, next home one is 2019 - which will be 18 years since aussies won over here by then!

i thought they played these cluster of ashes so they would have a large gap because they wanted to re-jig the calender for that world test cup they had planned. or something like that, hence why i thought 4 years without one was going to make up for 5 in 6 years.

LOL LOL LOL.

Sorry now I've got that out of the way, I hope Stuart Broad has taken away from this series exactly the type of bowler he should aspire to be, when he pitches it up he truly is world class.

Just bat all tomorrow England, and the day after if you can. Mock the hell out of the arrogant sods. Never have I truly despised a cricketing team as much as I have the current Australians, even without Haddin in the team. I hope they have to get 20 overs out of Warner tomorrow.

What an astonishing talent young Joe is. There are many aspects of his game that I love, but in particular when he goes for his shots they hit the boundary and are rarely stroked straight to a fielder. There are many good players down the years who hit lovely looking shots but they often went straight to the field (Ramprakesh was a prime example here). Root is right up there with the likes of Barry Richards for one, the best I ever saw at maneouvring the ball between the fielders.

Some wonderful catching today by the slips, a real exhibition. Everything that could go right did go right, another day our bowlers would have bowled well without ever getting the edge. Cricket can be a game of very fine margins at time. Make the most of it when the cricketing gods are on your side. Broad has irritated the life out of me many times down the years but, truly, hats off today.

Didn't realise until after Marsh was out today that the Aussies had brought into Shaun for Mitch, who had played well before. What were the Aussies thinking of, dropping their 4th seamer on a green wicket?! If they had wanted to stiffen the batting, then why not bring in Shaun Marsh for Voges?

I thought it was one of the finest 100s I've watched, admittedly sleep deprived and riding a joyous wave, but he played every shot in the book with technique and applied himself beautifully.

Only when you're winning

yeah, pretty much.
I like test match cricket *holds hands up, what can you say.
It suits my indolent nature to sit all day and do nowt, but with a sort of excuse, my only regret is we won't get 5 days out of it.

Other than having lived in both UK, NZ & OZ, I have no deep affiliations to any in a cricket sense.

If you snapped me in half you would find in my stick of rock there is only room for 3 letters and it ain't MCC.

Even NZ getting in on it, LOL, Sky could fit the entire Aussie scorebook into their info caption.

To put it in perspective for England. It was like being 10-0 up in the first 20 minutes before half time.
