England v Australia - THE ASHES

With a 300 lead it is all academic you feel.
You're most probably correct; in fact I'd say you are 99.99% correct as it would take some form of miracle for Australia to build a chase for us.

My consistent grumble however (as mentioned above) is that we never really finish a game off entirely. We always seem to have a wobble.

Maybe it's watching Everton and our ever-persistent inability to finish off opponents that makes me have my doubts in such secure positions.

if they got rid of it there would be no point in having umpires. you have to give them some leeway. DRS was introduced to eliminate the howler, not over-rule every single decision. you can't be 100% it;s reliable itself anyway. it's a good system.
So it's to keep a bit of tradition in the game, fair enough.

Don't worry, even England won't mess this up!

If the umpire believes it's out (or not out) then they should go by that. As you mention, the system is there to help them; not to undermine them.

I remember failing to take a catch as a lad (hit the grass clearly before my hands) and as we were comfortably in the lead, I was honest about it.

The umpire on the other hand said I had got it, so the lad was out. Can be the same in test cricket, as the umpire is the final decision.

"Moeen Munir Ali (born 18 June 1987) is an English cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and right-arm off-spin bowler"

that is crazy.
