A long-running feud between the wives of two senior players in the Australian team reportedly caused tensions.

The fall out from Australia's demoralising Ashes campaign continues with reports of upheaval in the camp long before the embarrassing fourth test defeat to England at Trent Bridge.

News Corp reports the tour had been dogged by off-field dramas with a long-running feud between the wives of two senior players; skipper Michael Clarke's refusal to travel on the team bus or socialise with team-mates, the sacking of popular vice-captain Brad Haddin after time off for family reasons and the mishandling of selection announcements.

"But it is the year-long disintegration in the off-field relationship between Clarke and the rest of the team that cruelled any chance of success," the report said. "He often chooses to travel by private car instead of the team bus and rarely attends team get-togethers.

Outgoing captain Michael Clarke, right, chose to drown his sorrows with former team-mate Shane Warne, left, rather than any of the current side following Australia's embarrassing defeat to England at Trent Bridge.

"On the night that he made his decision to step down, team members were stunned when he joined them for a rare drink in the hotel bar, although he ended the night drowning his sorrows with former team-mate Shane Warne rather than any of the current side.

"While the divide between captain and team will not be an issue with incoming skipper Steven Smith, the question of whether wives, girlfriends and children should be allowed on tour will continue to be a minefield.

"It is known that the wives of two senior players do not get along, and that this has caused friction between their husbands, as has been the case with personality clashes between WAGs on previous tours."

However, outgoing skipper Clarke has rubbished the reports in a fiery radio interview, saying when you don't perform there's going to be "Chinese whispers".

"There is no disharmony is this group whatsoever," Clarke said on Triple M. "The players are as tight as any team I've been a part of.

"Travelling in different cars. What a load of s***."

"Wives and girlfriends being on tour is a distraction for us. What a load of s****.

"That's absolute garbage.

"I'll give back 10 of my test 100s if it wasn't for my beautiful wife."

Regarding Haddin's axing, Clarke said it was obviously going to be tough as he had grown up playing with Australia's vice-captain.

But he said Haddin had conducted himself brilliantly throughout the process and the manner in which he helped Peter Nevill.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland earlier promised a review of the tour, following the series loss with one test to go.

Meanwhile, Australian coach Darren Lehmann has brushed off a devastating Ashes series loss with an outing to Britannia Stadium to watch Stoke City against Liverpool in the English Premier League.

But fans say he should be more focused on post-Ashes reflection rather than treating his time in England as a holiday.

And just like his Australian team was humbled by England, Stoke went down 1-0 to Liverpool.

Just thought that would be an interesting read for anyone who A) said Michael Clarke is well liked and B) didn't think he had his head up his own arse.

Can't stand the bloke and his crocodile tears over Phil Hughes.
