I'd rather Everton won a throw in an under 23s match when the score's already 3-0.

The media in this country refuse to accept that a huge amount of football fans, possible even the majority, don't give a toss about the national team. The only people who do are mostly Little Englanders who don't live in a city or town with a big name team to support so they buy England flags and hang them in their windows and spend fortunes to go watch qualifiers in away in Lithuania.

If England play in a tournament I support them but it doesn't bother me for 10 seconds once they go out, no matter what the circumstances.

This couldn't be any less truer. What a load of nonsense. Strictly speaking, I'm not aware of how people from Merseyside view the national team but in general, whether it be London, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, etc, the National team in tournaments is always what everyone cares/talks about during the summer. When England are playing a crucial group game at the World Cup, try stepping out to Leicester city centre and then compare that atmosphere to when Leicester City FC are playing Everton on a regular 3pm kickoff. Let's also not forget 500k English people went to France in 2016 to follow England at the Euros.

Yes, there may be a current lack of interest in qualifiers/friendlies currently due to England's poor tournament showings recently but the tournaments, is where it's at.

They've learnt their lesson now, but the way the media, etc used to big up England's chances right before a tournament was enough to make me want them knocked out at the first time of asking.

I used to care a lot more about the England team than I do now. We used to have good teams, particularly around the late 90s to mid 2000s. And while I’d love to see England win the World Cup, I want to see Everton win the Premier League more.
