England have no chance of winning a World Cup as long as the national team continues to be selected as some form of media popularity contest. One of the reasons for Alf Ramsey's success was that he didn't care about the press raving about certain form players. He just picked who he thought would play well together - this has been key to persistent German success, too.

As for choosing between the two, I would choose to get on the 68 in the driving rain to go to Goodison when the Toffees aren't even playing, if you gave me the choice.

Not scouse and unapologetically nationalist. But damned if I'd rather see kopites win the world cup over Everton winning the league.

No interest in England, they have no interest in medespite the fact I haven’t officially retired or not made myself available for selection and the fact that England’s football team is selected on reputation & which team you play for rather than form or ability. So, reckon on that basis I’d prefer Everton to win a throw in than England win the World Cup.

You know what.. I reckon that's close.
England always too short odds to win tournaments cos of the daft tenners people put on 'just in case' and Everton always a big price to beat Liverpool, cos were crap, bottle jobs.

Interesting. If you spoke with German based Dortmund/Bayern/Wolfsburg all, who've won the German league recently, most would agree that their World Cup win in 2014, was the best feeling, even above their league victories.

Same with Spanish Barca/Atletico/Real fans, in regards to Spanish victory at WC 2010.

I don’t think many Barcelona fans would be much bothered about the Spanish National team doing well.
