Rubbish. Charlie Austin went to Southamton to be backup to Pelle. Perez would have come to us.

That's an excuse the happy clappers use to explain signings like Valencia. It's just not true.

Charlie Austin was at a lower league side and his legs keep falling off. he has hardly set Southampton alight has he?

Perez didnt come to us, he went to Arsenal so why on earth would he have came here?

Surely there is someone in the academy who could have a better go at being our backup striker?

I can't think of 3 worse strikers in the league than Valencia, Kone and Niasse.
Crazy isn't it. And we're paying a total of around 100k a week for the privilege of having them on the books. What a slap in the face to the fans. Three fans have to work an entire year to pay a week's worth of wages for those three players who offer nothing and will continue to offer nothing to Everton. Makes me sick.

Perez would have come to us if Arsenal didn't step in. Arsenal wouldn't have had the chance had we done the deal earlier. Is that so hard to understand?

Austin scored at the weekend to win them the game. I'm not asking for someone to set the world alight. All I wanted was someone who could pitch in with a few goals when we needed them either because Rom was having an off day or was injured. Too often people focus on players either being crap or world class. Sometimes I just want us to get someone decent.

Is it so hard to understand that as soon as we made a move for Perez then Arsenal step in? Its a very simplistic viewpoint to think that we could just get him without anyone else wanting a piece if they were eyeing him up too.

Perhaps the right player wasnt available?

If that is what happened then it you would have a point but Arsenal only moved for him when they missed out on their other signings. Wenger is reported to have not been impressed with him earlier in the window.

Besides if it's not him then someone else. I don't buy the argument Valencia was all we could get. We just left it too late.

Well we were allegedly heavily into getting Gabbiadini too but his club didnt want to sell him.

All too late. We knew that we desperately needed a striker to backup Rom and like Spurs we should have been able to do a deal earlier in the window.

Kenwright gambled that he would get more value at the end of the window and as often happens when you gamble like that you lose. I think it was strategically a very poor decision by the board especially given the fact money shouldn't have been an issue.

Money will always be an issue. Its not just a case of how much you are paying for a striker. What about wages? What if Charlie Austin wants to come in but wants 80k a week to sit in our bench? Where does that leave the rest of the players?

We all want better players, of course we do, its just not quite as easy as some make out.

The waiting too long thing is a bit harsh seeing as the majority of our business was done before deadline day.

We didn't even spend the TV money. We could have afforded a backup striker without having to rely on the end of window bargain bin.

did you read Kenwright's diary? otherwise you have no idea if this is actually true, but I'm sure it's comforting narrative because then you can just blame Kenwright instead of admitting that setting up quality transfers is hard and our appeal is very obviously limited at the moment.

Our appeal. What nonsense. Southampton signed Austin as a backup. Rondon went to West Brom. Even Stoke got Bony.

At the start of the window everyone thought Rom was going so people can't even use the backup argument.

I don't need to read someone's diary to know that we left it to the end of the window. That's exactly what happened. How do I know this? Because we weren't even linked to anyone until about a week to go.

Makes me wonder how Middlesbrough were able to sign Alvara Negrado.

Or Stoke could sign Bony.

etc.

Football is about money, and we can supposedly pay top whack nowadays.

But we obviously couldnt....

You cant just buy anyone. Someone who wants to come here, more than likely as a back up, will want decent money to be a back up, someone who his club wants to sell and most importantly someone who will fit in with how the manager plays and how he expects players to be.

Its not as easy as just "buy Bony" or whatever. Would be nice if it was but it isnt.

Oh and wages again, We sold Stones who was on what, 40k at most? The players we brought in will probably all be above that, that's a lot of additional money each week to pay out.

We will probably get someone in January anyway.
