Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

Fine, if it's not not down to luck then it's down to Lukaku being a sporadic flop. How is that on Martinez?

And forget about the meaningless rankings. If Belgium is ranked 2 are they failures? What about 3? How much actual difference is there between the teams in the top spots anyway? This isn't a video game. Performances fluctuate from game to game to game. Key players for Belgium didn't perform well enough tonight.

I didn’t even mention Martinez?

So why did you sound so confident of them here?

El Gaffer marched them right into an early flight home.
The emphasis has always has been on Martinez.

You dont actually think I'd support any national outfit do you - least of all a nation that gave us Poirot and the Smurfs.

Dave we are well aware you will follow Martinez to the Moon. Or Coventry City which is around his level.

However as an internationalist surely you support all national sides simultaneously.

Nonsense.

Witsel, Vertonghen, Chadli, Praet, Origi etc etc are bang average PL class players. They do not constitute a team of outstanding quality.
Witsel is not bang average, and the rest are squad players except maybe Vertonghen who Bob also had in his prime and did nothing with.

I see we’re just supposed to ignore the fact that they have the likes of Courtois, Hazard, Tielmens, Meunier, Lukaku, Carrasco, De Bruyne, and Alderwiereld and have had them all since Bob took over. Wasted most of their best years.

No, I said those in bold are the sum total of the "Golden Generation".

Let;s not kid ourselves and repeat the media BS about a generation of top talent. They clearly aren't and weren't.

The likes of Meunier and Mertens were very decent players in addition to the 3 top class players. That's it though, basically.

They were put into a position by RM to do their best at a tournament and it was down to them to rise to the occasion. They almost did in Russia, but they were never contenders here. They are now 2 maybe 3 years past their peak as a team.
