People don't like accepting that luck is a big part of tournament play.
Martinez doing as bad as he has as Belgium coach is up there with one of sports greatest crimes. That squad should of won something and he’s failed them.
No team is guaranteed to win anything, no matter how good they or their manager are. If this was league play then sure, you could make that argument. But it's a tournament, and whether people want to accept it or not, a certain amount of luck is necessary to win a tournament no matter how could a team is. If Lukaku doesn't miss a sitter it's 2-2 and headed to extra time. Wins and losses are determined by fine margins, many of which a manager can't control.

How is a world class striker missing a sitter luck? No part of Italy winning tonight was luck. The number 1 ranked team in the world shouldn’t fail at the QF stage end of.

Belgium for the last 6 or so years has had as much talent as any side in world football and failed to capitalize or even make a final. He failed them and has officially wasted Belgium’s best ever chance at winning something major.
Nonsense.

Witsel, Vertonghen, Chadli, Praet, Origi etc etc are bang average PL class players. They do not constitute a team of outstanding quality.

Fine, if it's not not down to luck then it's down to Lukaku being a sporadic flop. How is that on Martinez?

And forget about the meaningless rankings. If Belgium is ranked 2 are they failures? What about 3? How much actual difference is there between the teams in the top spots anyway? This isn't a video game. Performances fluctuate from game to game to game. Key players for Belgium didn't perform well enough tonight.
