If it were me, I'd go for the early goal and force Italy into a higher pace. Otherwise I think Italy nick it late on.

But I think Southgate will go patient, try to control possession and tire Italy out. And I don't think it'll work as I can see Italy nicking one and giving England a mountain to climb.

Tough one. On balance, 1-0 Italy I'm going for, hope I'm wrong.

England did this. Perfect tactical approach to this game. They dropped the pace later in the half but they had to as you can't maintain it, but they've done more than enough.

Long way to go but Italy will start to feel this midway through the second half and it'll get tougher and tougher to claw this back. The key is maintaining the bravery and not sitting back too early.

But so far, congrats to that team and Southgate. Perfect.
 


….sometimes teams are scared to win. It was all so comfortable for England, they carried threat and looked solid. The longer it’s gone, they’ve retreated, they’ve shown signs of wanting to waste time.

England’s best chance is to go for a 2nd rather than hang on to what they’ve got. I think they can score again, some terrific performances.

Fine goal by Shaw, that’s a very controlled finish.
 
Great first half, dream start and we’ve dealt with Italy at every opportunity, even the more wobbly bits like getting pickpocketed around the box we’ve got bodies around
