Europa Conference League

Ah don't let that fool you. ECL is actually conference league.

The losers from the Champions League Qualifiers Round 1 and preliminary round enter at the second round (at present the highest teams there are Olympiacos, Malmo, but they'll be facing TNS etc), the losers from the Europa League round 2 enter at the play-off round. Losers from play off round in Europa will go straight to group stage.

From a person perspective, I'm excited. Nou Camp etc are the dream, but when would you ever dream of going to Armenia etc on holiday? Would be great imo.
no its not, 5 x Ch is 5 from the champions league, 17 x PO is the ecl playoffs as there are 34 teams in that round

I think this version will quickly prove more popular than the Europa League. That competition has suffered for years as just being a loser's trophy, no team in it can be arsed until the quarters at the earliest. And the team that wins it is usually someone who's had a poor campaign domestically and view it as a consolation and a get out of jail card (because of the CL qualification).

This conference league will be a throwback, loads of random teams playing one another during the week without the stress of other things going on in their season. The entire carrot for winning is simply to lift a trophy, not to qualify for another competition next year.

The old Uefa Cup was a bonkers competition but I miss it. This is closest thing we'll get to restoring it.
I think the Europa League now, will turn in to an excellent competition as there will be minimal fodder, which we may end up getting.

But for now, i'll take it, and bring on your Luxembourger clubs, and what ever, and make some boss memories.

That's the problem, it's less chances for trophies in reality as your fighting on too many fronts.
See we do have to start somewhere, the 80s side started against Watford, that's what we have to do, all focus on the domestic cups.
We did this season. And drew city and United in them and that was that. Better chance of winning this one

Is the CH not the Champions Route? So when they're knocked out the Champions League, they go into their separate section? That's how i've read it anyway.

Could be wrong mind!

I think the perception of all three tournaments will be more clear, viewed similarly to how the three domestic trophies are by English fans.

Champions League = League title (phenomenal achievement, the pinnacle)

Europa League = FA Cup (great achievement, massive moment for a team)

Conference League = Carabou Cup (boss memory and a potential springboard).

Ah i get you now, apologies

When we talk about extra games, do the players exercise and play training games in the week?
Are they actually expending more physical energy playing in the EL? In fact wouldnt it mean less exercise for some with the travel? Perhaps they maybe more mentally tired, but don’t they just swap 3 days training for 2 days travel and a match?
Lazy gitz..

Doubt Conference League would be held in that high of esteem. It's the fancy Intertoto Cup.

People are comparing it to that but I think that's not fair. The intertoto thingy was basically a pre-season tournament, and there wasn't even a physical cup presented to the winners. There was also no proper criteria to qualify, teams literally applied or were invited based on the 'fair play' league. Basically clubs practically begging UEFA to throw them a bone.

This new competition, people might turn their nose up but it's bound to be a lot more enjoyable.

Newcastle fans would tell you otherwise lol

Just to put things into perspective, Arsenal and Spurs were in Europa League groups this year with Dundalk, Rapid Vienna, Molde, Antwerp, LASK and Ludogorets. This competition will basically be of the same standard as that, it's not like we'd be playing sunday league teams. Also for reference, Spurs had to qualify for that and played Lokomotiv Plovdiv who would currently be in the ECL. They put their first team out and won 2-1 with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes after the opposition had gone down to 9 men. But people think our under 12s would beat them.
