Europa Conference League

I’ll be made up if we qualify for the Europa League but I can’t be arsed with this bum version of it. You just know we’ll get knocked out by the team 3rd in the Latvian league on away goals.

I don’t see how we get into a CL spot with having to play other Europeon football. It’s not happening mate. We will only get CL if we have just the league to concentrate on not travelling around Europe playing Thursday against some Bulgarian team when we have a big game at the weekend.
Our squad can’t handle 38 games a season never mind potentially another 15-20. I don’t believe for one minute we will be better for it.

Name me a side who have managed 38 games this season?
The turnaround has hampered every side possible.

The reason I’m behind the conference league is because it gets you where you need to be, winning twice a week... the standards will be lower, meaning we can use our depth of the u23 and academy, and we have that depth.

You don’t have to play James, DCL, or whatever you can play fringe players like Nkoukou, Branthwaite, Small, Onyango, Small whichever.
European football is a great way of keeping your players happy as there’s much more rotation.

So basically it’s just a glorified reserve league then if they’re the players that’s going to be playing.. that’s examy point! It’s garbage the teams in it will be garbage and of a very poor standard yet everyone getting sucked in because “we’re in Europe”

Everton V Utrecht doesn’t get my football juices flowing and especially if the players you mention above will the team. Btw that would be one the biggest fixtures in the competition.
Sorry mate but it’s not for at all.

What, you mean like most of these sides in the Europa League treat it?

Arsenal are 270 minutes away from Major Silverware and for the first 6 games, played nothing more than reserves like Nketiah, Runarsson, Mustafi, Elneny and Maitland-Niles.

When it gets to the last 16, then you can start taking it seriously. But I don't see any Arsenal/United fans moaning when they play the kids when they can. Well if it doesn't get your football juices flowing, that's fair enough, but for me Everton Vs. anyone will get my juices flowing, and ultimately, if we're all sat here, this time next year ready to play in a European Semi Final, the i'm all for it.

Incidentally, England, Germany, Italy and Spain all get entries, as of now Roma and Villarreal (who are semi finalists in the Europa League) and Borussia Monchengladbach occupy those positions all three regular mainstays in Europe, go further, and you find Marseille will be in it, with potentials of Feyenoord, Anderlecht may be in it.

Ultimately, I want Everton to be in as many competitions as possible, as it's extra chances for trophies, and I full believe the first one we win, will break the complex. Do I want Champions League? Yes. But ultimately, we need to start somewhere.

That's the problem, it's less chances for trophies in reality as your fighting on too many fronts.
See we do have to start somewhere, the 80s side started against Watford, that's what we have to do, all focus on the domestic cups.

A handy website that updates as people qualify, for instance I didn't realise that 5 losers from the champions league playoffs would be in it, I think the calibre of side will be higher than people think come the group stage.
It definitely will. It's effectively just going to be the same teams that normally make up the bulk of the Europa League, just without the better sides from that competition. A team full of seasoned internationals from Bulgaria, Romania, Greece etc who've played dozens of European games would absolutely eat our kids alive in front of their nutcase ultras setting off fireworks in the stands and everything, it's actually mind boggling that people think we could send a load of 16 year olds out there and beat them.

Ah don't let that fool you. ECL is actually conference league.

The losers from the Champions League Qualifiers Round 1 and preliminary round enter at the second round (at present the highest teams there are Olympiacos, Malmo, but they'll be facing TNS etc), the losers from the Europa League round 2 enter at the play-off round. Losers from play off round in Europa will go straight to group stage.

From a person perspective, I'm excited. Nou Camp etc are the dream, but when would you ever dream of going to Armenia etc on holiday? Would be great imo.

In the 80s it was fine.

Nowadays, it's been completely monopolised by Manchester City, who want to win everything. Arsenal, Chelsea or United occasionally win a trophy, but when was the last time anyone other than those three won a domestic trophy? Leicester won the league and then Wigan won the cup, so that's 8 years this year, and unless Leicester win the FA cup, it will remain the same.

Win what's available, there's no reason we can't go on a run, but turning your nose up at a trophy when we've gone 26 years without is just bonkers for me.

I think this version will quickly prove more popular than the Europa League. That competition has suffered for years because it's thought of as just being a loser's trophy, no team in it can be arsed until the quarters at the earliest. And the team that wins it is usually someone who's had a poor campaign domestically and just view it as a consolation and a get out of jail card (because of the CL qualification).

This conference league will be a throwback, loads of random teams playing one another during the week without the stress of other things going on in their season. The entire carrot for winning is simply to lift a trophy, not to qualify for another competition next year. A chance for a team to sort of announce themselves.

The old Uefa Cup was a bonkers competition but I miss it and no one with a straight face would seriously say it wasn't worth having if never made the CL. This is closest thing we'll get to restoring it.
