Europa Conference League

So basically it’s just a glorified reserve league then if they’re the players that’s going to be playing.. that’s examy point! It’s garbage the teams in it will be garbage and of a very poor standard yet everyone getting sucked in because “we’re in Europe”

Everton V Utrecht doesn’t get my football juices flowing and especially if the players you mention above will the team. Btw that would be one the biggest fixtures in the competition.
Sorry mate but it’s not for at all.
Let's face it we're the fat friend that hangs around with the more popular better looking birds in the hope that we can bag a good looking fella, when in reality we should face reality and lower our standards to where we are currently. It's not going to be for everyone, but it's not like we're going to be playing in this thing year on year...we might not qualify at all some years!!
The ECWC route didn't exactly throw up exciting ties, other than Bayern, but yet we're sitting here with a trophy and a great memory.
Teams in the 60's/70's winning the Fairs Cup / UEFA cup when it was the 3rd tier euro cup, now have it in their trophy cabinet list as a badge of honour. Try take it away from Newcastle, Leeds and even the RS for that matter. Begrudgingly you could say the RS winning the UEFA cup was a spring board for more honours in Europe in the 70's, like it should have been for us in '85, which it could be us next season hopefully.

People are comparing it to that but I think that's not fair. The intertoto thingy was basically a pre-season tournament, and there wasn't even a physical cup presented to the winners. There was also no proper criteria to qualify, teams literally applied or were invited based on the 'fair play' league. Basically clubs practically begging UEFA to throw them a bone.

This new competition, people might turn their nose up but it's bound to be a lot more enjoyable.

The arrogance from some of our fans honestly baffles me at times. Acting like we're to big for this competition, that its a waste of time to be avoided and that we should play kids if we do get "stuck" it it. I hate to break it to some of you but we haven't won a button in nearly thirty years, not a single solitary thing and we've hardly played Europe during all this time either. I'd like that to not be the case tbh so I say that if we do end up in it we embrace the whole thing and use it as a springboard to better things.

This gives us a chance to visit some mental places and create memories that last forever all the while having a proper go at ending our trophy drought. There will be some decent sides in this competition and even the totally unknown teams can't be written off as our games over the years against teams like of Ruzomberok and Metalist Kharkiv prove.

Yes it's obviously very much the league cup of European but so what? I'd be made up to see us win either the league cup or this. Winning this competition a lifting a cup would do more to attract players here then a couple of sixth or fifth place finishes will.

Genuinely don’t think we have the squad depth for both a domestic and European campaign, so if we qualify for this then we either need to shore things up with some new signings or use it as an opportunity to blood younger players

The domestic competitions should be prioritised

This, We're a club who can't finish in the Europa League spots or win a trophy yet we're sticking our nose up at this competition, This is what Moshiri meant when he said we're some of the hardest fans to please.
Should we settle for this? Not really I'm think it's crap myself but I'd rather be in it than not.

“They should bring back the cup winners cup”

Say a group of fans who’s team hasn’t won a pot for 26 years.

We’ve got more chance of being in the super league than any cup winners cup.
Good point, that would entail us winning a pot in the first place haha, still as a 3rd competition if you get rid of CL for anyone who isn't a champion, the other competitions would grow.

Last time we were in the Europa League our manager and DOF thought we needed a 40 man squad and as a result we are still struggling to get rid of the dregs of that squad to this day. I hope we don’t make that mistake again and instead use this as an opportunity to give the kids a game if we qualify for it.

Geez, i thought 7th was europa league... conference league means clubs nobodys heard of...ill take conference league, but now europa league seems like a half decent competition and we really want 6th not 7th.

Also 6th gets europe league group stage.

7th gets conference league playoff stage.

Huge difference.

We are already sicknote fc, last thing I want next season is more cripples from us having to play in some bumblesquat competition thats already a running joke in the sport before it’s even started.

Plus it means tons of Sunday/Monday games (n)

edit: If you win it what’s the prize ? you get a place in Europa League next season ? loool
