That is messed up.

Same points though. Not sure why they are positioned above. Maybe because they played in Europe more recently.

Everton's coefficient is 24.949 ranking us 82th in Europe. Take out the teams that are qualifying for the CL proper or are not qualifying for Europe and then you can see where we are in terms of ranking for the competition.

Our big problem is that, for 2015-16 we lose all the Ranking Points from our last foray into Europe (2009-10) so we need to make some progress there (next season).

The following is a list of possible (and certain) qualifiers to the Europa League ranked above us - not all will qualify, some will go into the CL (qualifiers and groups).

Manchester United
AC Milan
Olympique Lyon
Internazionale
Tottenham Hotspur
FC Basel
Zenit St. Petersburg
Bayer Leverkusen
Sevilla
CSKA Moscow
PSV Eindhoven
Napoli
Dinamo Kiev
AZ Alkmaar
Villarreal
Lazio Roma
FC Twente Enschede
Anderlecht
Fiorentina
Metalist Kharkiv
Lille OSC
FC København
Viktoria Plzen
Standard Liège
PAOK Thessaloniki
APOEL Nicosia
Spartak Moscow
Besiktas
VfL Wolfsburg
Club Brugge
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk
Hapoel Tel-Aviv
Trabzonspor
Panathinaikos
Sparta Praha
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Real Sociedad

A number of the following (part-qualified) CL teams could drop into the Europa by losing in the Qualifying stages (some will make it in the Group stages by finishing high enough in their leagues and others will make it into the CL via those qualifiers).

Arsenal or Chelsea
FC Porto
Schalke 04
Borussia Dortmund
Juventus
Shakhtar Donetsk
Manchester City
Galatasaray
Athletic Bilbao
FC Salzburg
Steaua Bucuresti
Celtic
BATE Borisov

The probable scenario in the Group stages (48 teams) is we will be in pot 2 (of 4). It will help us if we win the group and avoid a top CL Group 3rd team - thereby getting a decent run in the later stages.

Kind of thinking the Europa League might be a blessing in disguise. Not that I wouldn't have preferred fourth place, of course, but a few cheap wins in the Europa league might help avoid the situation we would have faced this year having to qualify against a team like Napoli or Porto.

If Swansea could get through the group stages this year, I see no reason that shouldn't be the absolute minimum expectation, regardless of draw.

Updated my post above regarding the Italian group stage position. It's similar to our situation.

Indeed as long as we don't bugger up against APOEL and the likes! I'd love a trip to Cyprus to watch Everton.

We'll definitely be an unseeded team for the CL playoff if we finished 4th next season because our points from 09/10 won't be taken into account. Doubt they'd make a difference even if they did since the lowest seeded team for this years was Zenit on 70.766.

Can't wait to experience euro nights at goodison again.

Last few times we've been in Europe I've been away too, can't see that happening much next year but it should be quality anyway.

Bit sad that we missed out on the CL as I thought it was there for the taking this season but I genuinely believe we have a chance to win the Europa.

Roll on next season

Somewhere in the Netherlands, a Twente fan just came to this same conclusion and is now absolutely dreading drawing Everton in their group.

We're certainly good enough to get in to the final at least. With a bit of luck and a positive mentality we could win it. The only worry I have is that it will hamper our preparations for league matches. Our energy will suffer and we'll probably pick up injuries. I'd like to see us blood the youngsters and use some of our squad players in the European matches, at least until the business end.

I'd honestly be OK with our league form suffering if it meant a trophy. UEFA, FA, League, maybe even pick two, I'd be for it.

There's a lot of great teams potentially going to be in it and we'll be right up there among them. A major, major factor in any cup run though is luck. It has to be your year. Getting iffy penalties and getting away with stonewallers and the like. We have no luck. Reckon we can loan some from the RS?

If Legia won't get through CL qualifications (which they won't for sure) we can make a double trip to Warsaw next year as they will be seeded in third pot.

Oh and Poznan and Krakow are also available if they can qualify

Really excited about seeing us in Europe next season. Shame it isn't the champions league but will still be a good adventure.
