Evening guys - Please help a striker question

Sorry mate but the day we're envious of Birmingham City will be the day of the apocalypse. You don't have a tradition of success. League titles? Cups? Any European titles? How many fans do you get home and away? How many genuinely world class players have played for you? How's your youth system, any potential world-beaters?

Well I suppose you guys are succeeding at the moment. Mid-table mediocrity in the premier league as opposed to mid-table mediocrity in the championship.

with all due respect mr g i like everton very much so im not going to get into a childish football debate. i think we proved were not a bad team by you not getting a single win off us last season altho you are still the better team. we can all quote history but its the now that counts.

Wayne Rooney and Jack Rodwell cost us nothing. Mikel Arteta cost us £2 million.

If you're good enough at breeding and spotting talent, then you don't need money. Ideally you need a bit of both, but we're very good at the former so we get by.

Example:

Lescott, bought for £6 million. Great player for a few seasons. Sold for £24 million
That money is used to finance a move for Distin, Heitinga and Bilyaletdinov.

So, over the course of those years, in this scenario, we've spent around £8 million, to get some great years of service out of Lescott, and then come away with Distin, Heitinga and Bilyaletdinov. It's smart footballing business; proving you don't have to spend a lot to get a lot.

If he's bringing through (equivalent) 40 million worth of youth talent every other season, its not a miracle. It's called skill mate.

Theres a reason why we've got a better squad in 2010 to 2001. Younger. Better and more strength in depth.

Its called skill.

And Nzog is over priced. And we've got Magye Gueye (below) for less than 1 million. In 12 months time you'll see what we're talking about there.

Maybe even sooner?

have you seen scotty dann play my man?? who is this magye?? are you sayin that i should think someone i have not heard of is better than the nzog? i like everton but you are not doing tehm any favours here.

We don't know how good Gueye will be, but he cost us about 10% of what N'Zogbia would cost, and he's 4 years younger. If he performs for us then we've got a good alternative, whilst spending a lot less, and we'd potentially get more mileage out of him.

Thing is, and the fact you've not mentioned a single Birmingham youth player yet that you rate...............

Birmingham need to spend a fortune to attract players. Everton are at a point they don't to just tick over. Our youth setup is such that we've been bringing a player through a season, and Moyes has topped it up with nominal spending.

The point I was making - is that you genuinely have to watch that Hong Kong businessman like a hawk.

We don't need regular marquee signings at Everton. We build our teams systematically with the cornerstone being youth.

For Birmingham to not do a Portsmouth, or West Ham, you seriously need to develop young players to maintain it all.

I don't need to do my "tehm" any favours. They do the talking themselves.

Watch and see "Blue Pride of Brum" watch and see.

all your doing is contstucting an argument that suits your own position ie being a typical internet fan.

wether it is money or a good youth system that propels our clubs onto good things who cares?? i would hold up chelsea and crewe as two examples of what you mention though? whos winning things?

He's got it all though. I've seen enough of that. All he needs is experience and guidance and he's going to be some player. As he's got it all as a player. Physique. Pace. and the Skill to go with it.

Matt's right about the importance of youth.

Look at all the top teams of the past 10 years:

Man U: Scholes, Giggs, Neville at the forefront of their success for a decade -- all one team players.
Chelsea: Loads of young players coming through. John Terry was a youth player as well.
Arsenal: Really shouldn't have to give examples here.
Liverpool: Gerrard, Carragher etc.

if my auntie had balls my man then she would be my uncle.

Yes some of it is speculative, but on the same page, what about N'Zogbia? Looking good in the steaming pile of [Poor language removed] that is Wigan, is not a hard thing to do. I bet your auntie, testicles and all, could rise to the top of that team.

last time i spent some time on hear i was aware of a lot of your own fans wanting him mush. what has changed?

Well I'm hardly going to support your position - am I? And the point is you've mentioned Scott Dann.

I've mentioned half a dozen young Everton players all of which are in their respective age international setups.
"Bidwell. Baxter. Barkley. Hope. Garbutt" and "Maggie Gueye and Jack Rodwell" etc etc.

That speaks volumes.

And like I said. Watch the Hong Kong businessman like a Hawk. You've been warned.

And be pushing for improving your youth setup.
