It's Gylfi Sigurdsson.

When you factor in his price tag, the role he was brought in to do, how far his failure to do any sort of job for us set us back... there's no other correct answer. All of the rest play in roles you don't build a side around. They didn't have anywhere near the same detrimental impact.

He's in his own stratosphere when it comes to bad signings. None of the others come close.

To be fair to Bolaise he did have a bad injury like Kone, so being this time of year you can let them off too an extent. Klassen was a bizarre signing, watching him play premier league football was like a drunken moron starting a fight with a professional boxer, same with Sandro. Tosun was a ridiculous signing, but like Niasse simply wasn't good enough. Sigurdsson is one of our strangest players, in terms of you don't really know what he does. He's not a defensive midfielder, he don't create anything and he isn't like a Felaini or a Cahill who players in behind. He just seems to go missing in games, you don't actually have a clue what he does.

Rod Belfitt must be a contender. We swapped him for David Johnson, who went on to play for England (at a time when caps weren't given to players who'd played just 10 games at the top level). Harry Catterick stayed with us for three seasons too long, his buys in the 1970s were mainly failures.

I've never seen Jags that bad. We all thought it must have been a trick of the camera or the way his shirt fell in that pic at preseason. He looked pregnant, he must have finished the season and just ate everything in sight. As soon as he retires he's going to blimp up Barnes style.

McGeady was the same. We could have signed him for nothing in the summer for nowt yet Roberto brought him in January looking like he needed a pre-season....

We've been forced to build the team around siggurdson, play to suit him, and use him as our fulcrum and main attacking outlet for 3 years because of his price tag. This has irrevocably set us back. No other signing has had such a draining affect on the club. Sure there are worse players, but none have caused the overall damage that this waster has done.
