Having just looked back at our seasonal results over the past 50 years the one common feature is how poorly we start off each campaign.

I'm grasping at straws, I know
Not taking pre season seriously is one of the main reasons. Losing to league 2 opposition, unable to beat Sligo. Its unprofessional and shows a lack of standards.

Add in the fact that our recruitment makes absolutely no sense or is done right at the deadline, and you can see why we start the season so badly.

Almost like the pre-season wasn't adequate, who'd have thunk it. However the biggest let down today was not playing any of the new forwards because the ones he picked, proved time and again last season they're ineffective. I was very pissed off and we were proved right.

Feels like a kick in the nuts already  who'd support Everton if they could choose when younger, nothing but disappointment.

Not going to get overly wound up about one game but criticism is well and truly warranted.

Really embarrassing. Losing is rubbish but to be handed your arse to you on the first day against a new manager is woeful. Those holes that still need plugged in the squad are glaringly obvious to everyone apart from Dyche and the club it seems.

The nonsense about players not having PL experience winds me up too. It's just silly and I can't believe there are still managers around that peddle it.

It can be quite easy to forget that Brighton, before their tail off at the end of last season were one of the leagues top performing teams.

I'd take two positives from yesterday, lots of negatives, but the two positives were Tim Irogbuemas (sic) performance, and that Harrison was much better in an attacking sense.

We started well and had good energy, it lasted 25 minutes and that's why I said we had to take our chances. As soon as we concede, we deflate. Second half was atrocious and so flat. For the last 30 minutes they couldn't keep up with play by which time Brighton were knocking it around comfortably. We knew what they were going to do every time they started a play and we allowed them to get out so easily. Players were strolling around and Dyche allowed it to go on.

Its a noose because if we're all honest - we're paranoid about going down in our last season.

Its also the usual excess over the top sentimentality, that you can see the likes of Alan Myers and those in the club push constantly

You can be sentimental. When you're winning games and performing consistently.

This Everton are doing neither. It's the continuing "Kenwright legacy"

Why McNulty is spot on and why having someone like him tell people like Alan Myers and those in the club uncomfortable truths is great and I fully support 👇

There are people within and surrounding Everton Football Club like Myers that are so full of themselves, their bubble needs bursting

We just got tonked 3-0 at home and only competed for the first 20 minutes of the game

Dyche is incredibly rigid in his views on football, and in essence plays the 'safe' hand (from his perspective), regardless of whether it's the likely right call.

He picks experience over ability, and he is reluctant to use youth players at all; once he's picked his XI, he will stick with it regardless of the performance.

That's why we see late subs and, in the mainstay, ones that are almost entirely predictable. His selection yesterday was poor with the other options available.

For me yesterday, we didn't start too badly, however their goals were far too easily conceded, and the lack of fight or pressure was of great concern.

Once the first went in, we were doomed because they gave up - lack of pressing, composure and downright fight to get a result.
Spot on
