With a fit Branthwaite we probably get the 3 points, and go level with Utd. We are not great but neither are many of the other teams from mid table down. Just needed to improve defensively and develop the mentality to see games out.
if he was fit against villa and bournemouth no way do we concede the goals we did to lose the games. so we would of been 10 points now so would actually be a point behind the barcodes but we all know that anyway

We’ve been pretty close to being relegated in each of the last three seasons and haven’t really spent a load on improving the squad. I’m hopeful for a good performance against Newcastle but I wouldn’t be shocked by a loss. They’re a very good team.
We were nowhere near relegation last year, we finished 14 points above 17th place, not including the 8 point deduction.. would have been 22 points clear.. in my books that's not pretty close to relegation.

We won 5 out of our last 8 games and relied on the other teams being terrible. Anyway, finishing 10-14 be a very a good result this season. A game home game against Newcastle isn’t a make or break fixture.

Exactly this.

This isn’t a squad that should be relegation fodder, yet somehow our collective expectations have been worked down so that we think it is.

We have a mid-table-capable squad and therefore breaking in to the top half ought to be our ambition, rather than scraping survival.

The difference here compared to the league start is Keane was not playing but Doucore was unfortunately.

Must add we were lucky the ref did not give a penalty. We were only playing fellow losers.

Awful first half ,up there with as bad as I’ve seen under dyche but significantly better second half . The manager made positive changes in terms of personnel and tactically which paid off with the deserved win.

Credit to dyche for the change , I was also going to give him credit for what I assumed was a taking the paint off the walls /rallying cry at half time but looking at what young has said seems that was down to seamus . You’d think that would be down to the manager but it worked so that’ll do .
Seamus, future manager?

I don't know why we don't have a proper go at teams, particularly at home. They should dread coming to Goodison. For too many, it is little more than an extended training exercise ...

Would it have been better if the 5 wins were spread over the entire season rather than the last few games? Same result... the point was made that we were near relegation for the last few years, it doesn't matter what stage of the season the points come we weren't near relegation last year.

Yes, it would have been much better and less stressful. Our general level in the last 3 years and the start of this season has been relegation contenders. We were in or around the relegation places for the majority of last year and there was a general fear that we might be relegated with or without the points deduction. Anyway, I was responding to someone being negative about a victory that seemed very unlikely at half time. And the point is every win is a good win in the position we are in.
