Everton 2-2 Aston Villa

I've got to face facts here:

- Villa have hit form in the last month

- We're clearly going in the opposite direction

- With their 5-1 thrashing of Birmingham, their goal difference has just got better than ours

- Even if we get Osman, Arteta and Pienaar back, they aren't playing well enough to beat Villa.

I agree that our defence has held up despite our poor form. I fear that will not be enough to get us the result we need. It's going to be a nailbiting run in but I can't see us keeping 5th spot. After the Villa game, we're up against Arsenal and the barcodes whilst villa have Wigan at home and West Ham away. The best we'll get out of that will be three points - they will hope for all six. Game over

One bright ray of hope is that Manny might continue his improvement. If he can do that, we might scrape home.

Sorry for being a misery guts...it's been a great season but we're fizzling out rapidly and as one poster put it recently, I can't wait for the season to end now...

They have scored a lot of goals recently but those runs tend to dry up rather suddenly. Especially when you go from playing against poor defences to playing against a good one. After beating Sunderland 7-1, our next game was 0-0 at Portsmouth. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same result here. Having said that, Manny is starting to come into form and Yak is overdue a goal (or 3). Wishful thinking? Definitely.

Quote from above about neville.
As the captain of our club he should be a big enough man to tell the boss he isn't good enough to play in midfield.

Wow!! if our players have to tell our manager if they are good enough for certain positions we are in all sorts of trouble!!!!!!.

I must be the only one who thought Phil Neville had a decent game against Chelski, even though he was in Midfield.

No mate i thought he was ok aswell. Some of the drivvle writen on here about him is utter [Poor language removed]. Its just like a witch hunt!!

Yes i agree his passing is awfull at times but as our captin i think he does a great job. You say he should be big enough an tell the manager he's not good enough in midfield.............WTF. Its got nothing to do with him were he plays. The boss picks tactics an sets players were he wants them. Any one with half a footballing brain knows that.

Maybe pienaar an arteta should tell the gaffer they dont wont to play wide, Because thats not their proper positions. YOU play were your picked, End ov. As some one pointed out pip would never play in the middle if every one was fit. So thank god he's here or we could have ended up with graverson their all season FFS.

Anyway this is the most important league game of the season, think we'll be well up for this one. With hopfull ossie an arteat back so shout be 4-5-1 an i can see us winning 2-1. Hope any one who go's on sunday sings their heart out for the boys from start to finish. Lets help an push them over the line. Know i'll not stop singing.

Right now the momentuum is with villa. Still its us in fifth and I'm sure we'll not give it up lightly. Now is the time for Moyes to lift the lads and dig them out of their post-uefa funk.

I think it'll be a tight and testy game but with our back line solid; heroics from jag and yobo refraining from his freaky gallops up field, we can take the three points 1-0.

About Nev - yes he's a good pro, believes in the club, respects the supporters but come on.. his game has been well below par for some time now. A team in fifth and wishing to seriously challenge for fourth simply needs better than what he's offering. I'll be happier to see him at RB on Sunday and worried if I see him in the middle. After watching the villa game, his habit of surrendering possession in our half will provide happy hunting for young and co.

Well he's probably the most vocal player so he's going to be a target when they dont play well. He's very much a captain in the mould of a Beckham style and by that I mean a politician captain, so whenevery he's interviewd he talks a good game, but unfortunately he's a very ordinary player and doesnt have the ability to lift his let alone anyone else's game.

Ultimately Neville is not a good captain, he does his best I give him that, but he doesnt possess good leadership qualities and it clear that is irratating the fans now we're in a slump.

.

The point being that both Moyes and Neville should for the good of the team know that Neville is not good enough to play in midfield and does more harm then good.

Fair enough maybe Phil has pointed out to Moyes that he is a [Poor language removed] passer of the ball and should be nowhere near midfield but Moyes still insists on playing there depsite Nevilles protests.

Surely the club captain has some input to team selection, even if its just advice. I'm sure if Moyes wanted to play him up front he would soon say what a dumb idea it is.

And if Moyes plays Neville in midfield despite that advice and despite the [Poor language removed] performances then Moyes is showing a serious lack of good management.

So maybe the criticism should be aimed at Moyes rather than Neville.

Nevilles favoured position is central midfield.

Its a dangerous game, they had a screamer last weekend. Young and Barry easily the two best players on the pitch. We have to be very careful especially from there set peices. i think we need two CDM's just to keep Young and Barry on there toes.

This is the team id go with providing all players are fit and healthy:

---------------- Howard --------------------

Lescott ----- Yobo ----- Jagielka ---------- Baines

-------------- Neville -------- Carsley ---------

Osman ------------ Arteta ---------------- Pienaar

-------------------- Yak ------------------------
