Everton 2-2 Aston Villa

Its a dangerous game, they had a screamer last weekend. Young and Barry easily the two best players on the pitch. We have to be very careful especially from there set peices. i think we need two CDM's just to keep Young and Barry on there toes.

This is the team id go with providing all players are fit and healthy:

---------------- Howard --------------------

Lescott ----- Yobo ----- Jagielka ---------- Baines

-------------- Neville -------- Carsley ---------

Osman ------------ Arteta ---------------- Pienaar

-------------------- Yak ------------------------

I disagree mate. We are at home and need to beat them to keep 5th for ourselves. I think having 2 DM will destroy any hope of winning. We need to get back to the money ball that made us all gawp in amazment earlier in the seaosn. Villa will be the perfect time to do that. Announce we aren't giving in for the run in and won't go down without a fight.

That said, this is what I want to see:

Howard
Neville Jags Lescott Baines
Cars
Arteta Fernandes Pienaar
Osman
Yak
Failing that, a 4-4-2 lineup of:
Howard
Neville Jags Lescott Baines
Arteta Cars Fernandes Pienaar
AJ Yak
With Ossie making an mid-second half appearance probably for Pienaar.

Anyhoo, thats my tuppance.

I'd go along with that but my defence would be -

Neville Yobo Jags Lescott

I think thats our strongest defence we've got against a good attacking side.

The 442 with Neville and Carsley isnt working - there's no creativity in the midfield to feed Aj or Yak, so we're always on the back foot when going forward and things break down easily ending up with us hoofing the ball alot.

Going back to 451 mean we should be able to knock the ball around and if Manny or Osman push up the field we should be able to feed and support Yak. But If Manny is playing gash at holding the ball up or creating anything in the middle he should swap with Arteta, putting him in the middle. If Arteta's injury is still niggling him, being in the middle would benefit being he'll have more time on the ball, be able to slow things down so he doenst have to bomb the wings as much.

Villa have a strong midfield with Barry, who dominates how they play. If he gets to do his own thing they'll overrun us. By going back to the 5 man midfield we should be able to cancel him/them out - By stopping Barry, Young and Agbonglahor they'll fall apart. and by also having AJ on the bench we have that extra firepower when they're feelign tired to get the win or chase for a draw.

**this is mainly down if everyone is fit by the way**

All going to plan I'd hope for a 2-0 win.

We need to win it badly.

If we were offered this position at the start of the season I'm pretty sure most people would take it. Realistically we have to win 2 of our last 3 games to be sure of European football next season, with 2 of those at home. It's not a mammoth task.

Villa are a good side, but beatable. If we play football rather than the old hit and hope I can see us getting a result. If we do just end up booting it upfield we may still get a result. Either way, I don't care as long as we get the 3 points. The important thing in my view is to get 5th spot then look back on a successful season.

Villa need to win. They'll come to Goodison all guns blazing.

You should think we need to be smart, and set up our team to play counter-attacking football.

But Villa have the second-best attack in the league, and with the likes of Petrov and Young not shy to shoot from range, it might be suicidal inviting pressure that we may not be able to cope with.

So we must simply outscore them. Carson is a terrible, overrated keeper. He flaps at everything, and can't stop simple straightforward shots.

If we play anywhere near to our average standard, we'll win.

Laursen is good, but Zat Knight has always been [Poor language removed], a walking disaster waiting to happen.

So while Villa are great upfront, they're highly suspect at the back, with Carson and Knight, so we should try to take advantage of their weakness and press them as much as possible. If we do, I believe we can score at least 2 against them.

But knowing Moyes, being the cautious man he is, he'll probably set up superdefensively, and only play on the break. I guess it seems practical to an extent to play to not lose(God, I sound like Benitez), as that would probably clinch 5th place for us; but I would really like to see the overrated Carson, get destoryed and exposed as the [Poor language removed] keeper he is, so that all the RS fans I know can shut up about how great Carson is.

Anyway, rant over.

Great to hear we would have Arteta and Osman back for this match and with fitness improve Fernandes, I believe we now have the midfield line up capable of beating Villa at home.

I agree but I hear Ossie is back to practice but Arteta is still in Spain and will be untill Friday. This is a huge game nothing should be spared.

Now this has truely become the game of the season, while we should have been chasing RS for the 4th place, we have now leave ourselve to fight off chasing pack to finish 5th, if only we have had a squad with a bit more depth and little bit more quality player we would have been getting the right result from last few games.

No good looking in the past now, but I hope this made Moyes and Bill know what we needed in the summer to take us to the next level.

Again we're going to play for a draw and/or hopefully nick a goal on the counterattack. I have a really bad feeling about this match and thanks to Brum's [Poor language removed] performance AV leads us in GD as well.

I think Baines and Fernandes have done enough recently to warrant a start- Baines will need his pace against Young and Lescott will need his power against Carew. My team for Sunday:

Howard
Neville Jags Lescott Baines
Carsley Fernandes
Arteta Osman Pienaar
Yak

I actually think that side is (when fit) good enough to give anyone in the Premiership a right go.

Yup. Good blend of resilience, pace and threat. Mentally we must take the game to villa and not invite them onto us. I think they will tear into us if we do. We must be strong, get them on the back foot and remind them they're at Goodison from the outset.

Don't get too negative the only reason we are not getting the result are our midfield has fallen apart recently!

As Osman, Arteta, Pienaar and Fernandes regain there match fitness, i expect we could win this match.

And let be honest a draw is not good enough at the moment we must drag ourselve further away from Portsmouth and Villa, as we have a tough game against Arsenal the following week.

whenever i see this fixture 1 thing instatly springs to mind, sitting in upper gwladys~~(the bit on the bend), gary shaw picking up the ball, heading off towards the park end and curling the goal of the season into the net, don't know how many times since i have seen this fixture but that instantly stands out.

this week.....beware carew, run at them, don't fanny around the box get it in there and put them under pressure
