Everton Agree Fee With Man Utd For Lukaku

Let's show him this season how bigger club is Everton by finishing above united...i think it is possible as we're not miles away from them the season just past. Can you imagine his face if united was to miss out on champions league football to the expense of Everton...that would be priceless

Let me put it this way - it's actually a reflection on how far United have fallen that they are spending premium money on players that Real Madrid and Barcelona wouldn't be remotely interested in. The "biggest club in world football" label is well and truly gone - they can't even nab Real Madrid cast-offs now.

Lukaku only ever attracted interest from the second tier "elite" clubs - United, Chelsea, PSG. Which is an achievement in its' own right of course, but Lukaku is not a proven option; he's a very expensive punt that can (probably will) backfire, because United are desperate for a striker and can't get one of proven pedigree at the elite table.

I didn't take to him because he wasn't good enough mate. I accept most/all footballers are mercenaries. Indeed, the desire to do the best they can financially is what makes the elite the elite.

So no - for me, Lukaku was not good enough, because we were trying to play football with a striker who didn't facilitate football. He also destabilised the club at every opportunity in the press when he was abroad. I know it's a bit of a cliche, but the club is bigger - far bigger - than any player, and certainly bigger than a limited player like Lukaku.

If Sandro doesn't want to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, I don't want him at Everton, because he's mentally an also-ran, and I've had more than enough of those at Everton over the years.

I want winners at the club, but they have to fit the way we play. Lukaku never did - he scored goals, but those goals didn't compensate for how much he harmed us as a team.

Thanks for the £90m United!

Completely disagree with him not being good enough - but appreciate this view.

It's going to be a pretty popular view at times like this, for obvious reasons, but it's still utterly wrong.

When there were doubts he was going to sign permanently after the loan, it was popular to knock his ability and say he wasn't worth the £28m. Wrong.

When he went on international break and said he wanted to play in the CL, it was popular to say no one would ever meet our asking price because "he's not good enough". Wrong again.

Ridiculous statement. United beat Real and Barca to the Pogba signing and got zlatan baily and Mihktarin last year. United won 3 trophies last year and the FA Cup the year before.

Agree with every word of that. I do wonder how many of the Lukaku fanboys actually go to games? My view of Lukaku is his total lack of team effort when we're under the kosh. How many times do we clear it, only for his CB to get to the ball unchallenged? Very frustrating. His ball control & hold up play is Sunday league at times. Shocking. He gives away so much cheap possession, it's not funny. When we break, his movement at times lacks intelligence. Doesn't make it easy to play him in, then he complains when he doesn't get it.
For me, the most telling stat is our league position minus his goals, 7th! No difference.
I wanted rid of him. Don't care what anyone says, I think we'll be better as a whole, win more games with a striker who can hold the ball & compliment teammates. £75M is a massive bonus!
I look forward to the fume from Utd fans. What will Rashford think when he's sitting out watching Rom trap it 5 yards?

We will be a better team without him. I can see unrest at Utd.

We will see...

As a young kid I was gutted when Bob Latchford left and joined Swansea, just as i was a year earlier when Andy King left. Then Andy Gray moved on to be replaced by Gary Lineker who swiftly left for Barca the following season. Then Tricky Trev went and two years later the legend Greame Sharp came to the end of his time at Goodison and moved on to Oldham, only to be replaced by a 30 year old Peter Beardsley who was deemed not good enough for the scum over the park. Beardsley then got sold after two years followed in that decade by Kanchelskis, Judas, Ferguson to Newcastle, Gary Speed and Jeffers. Then Rooney got sold after an euro 2004 tournament which for a brief while had made me want to watch international football again, it felt as bad as Big Bob moving on as Rooney was one of us. As much as I have loved his goals Lukaku will rate alongside Judas Barmby, his last 5 games he played for our club became an example of how not to get injured by doing bloody nothing when the Golden Boot was his for the taking, same with Barkely, good riddance lads, thanks for the memories but we've lost a lot more guys over the years who have meant so much more for so many different reasons. We really should be if we're getting £90m with a considerable net spend as is likely.

There was huge potential for improvement across a good 6 or 7 of the first XI positions going into this summer as long as the money is spent.
