Everton Agree Fee With Man Utd For Lukaku

Disappointing, but inevitable. Holding on to a 20 goal a season striker was always going to be tough. Especially with his annoying public comments about leaving.

Fantastic striker. The best the club has had for a long time.

Tough to replace him. Giroud is probably the best bet.

i think in previous seasons since Fergus left we have been ripped off and made bad buys di maria 65m , memphis 30m , etc , since Jose arrived we have bought big Pogba and Rom now hopefully they wil pay off , i think most English clubs have and are getting ripped off now i mean siggurdson 50m thats absurd , Moratta 78 milion its crazy money , mind you most United fans would rather see the money the club make go on players/agents rather than the hangers on and parasiites

My issue with the initial transfer was that we were overpaying for a player unwanted at his club who had barely played. Chelsea had got nearly three times their initial fee back for a flop signing. After the loan and Lukaku wanting out I thought we could have got him for around £15-20m.

There's nothing 'staggering' about thinking that way.

Flop? He was 18 when he originally left on loan and I'm pretty sure Chelsea were happy for him to stay but he insisted on a permanent move because Costa signed.

When we signed him he had scored 16 and 17 goals in two seasons in the PL from the ages 18 to 20 and was Belgium's number one striker. We were getting a 20 year old, very highly-rated, proven PL striker with international experience, enormous potential and who was getting better year on year and crucially was extremely ambitious and driven to play at the top level. So the type of player we usually had zero chance of signing in that pre-moshiri era. We also hadn't had a decent striker in what felt like a millennium, excluding yakubu's first season.

There was no chance we were getting that for 15-20m.

I am happy with the amount of money we have got for him. But we have plenty of that now anyway. So mixed views from me. Just like the Rooney arrival.

So you think we were ripped off paying 28 mil for a player we sold 3 years later for 90 mil? Do you work in the private sector mate?
