Ha ha ha ha ha

Have one more for the road mate. Treat yourself
I guess we will soon see but I will leave you with this.

He just scored 25 goals and narrowly missed out on the golden boot with Barkley, Gueye, Davies, DCL, Lookman and Mirallas supplying him which had to be one of the least creative attacks in the premiership.

We will certainly need Sigurdsson to add goals from midfield, even allowing for Klaassen.

That could be up to £40m of the £75m gone.

Not sure now if he is the answer, especially with Rooney's impending arrival as I would imagine he will be employed behind the traditional front man. But then how many games would he play?

I'm not in favour of signing Rooney + Giroud. Prefer Giroud but Rooney seems inevitable and that would give us two 30+ players who lack pace and mobility. The exact attributes that Koeman seeks to play a high press. Singing both of them makes no sense to me.

I'd prefer to drop interest in Giroud if Rooney is being signed, and put that money towards a younger striker. I think Josh King would be great for us.

I don't think we should go for Siggy now...too much and we'll have Rooney/Sandro/Kev on the left. I'd really like Giroud here but if we ended up with Josh King I'd be happy too!

Lukaku out for 80m
Sign Giroud 20m, Sigurdsson 30m, Rooney free and we're pretty much sorted in our midfield and attacking positions. Use any remaining money on a centre back / left back / right back.

Wide men ?

Mirallas
Lookman
Lennon
Bolasie

Not exactly bristling with talent although I think Lookman will become very good over to,e

what will be interesting is how United handle Rom's dry spells. He's been our only real striker for 4 years and been able to play him self back into form when struggling in front of goal. United (or Chelsea) won't let him persist with him for 6-7 games with out a goal because if he's not scoring he offers very little else.

The amount of man u fans melting down on that Jim White tweet is sensational.

They don't have a clue about Jim's connections.

You just know he isn't going to be as good for United or Chelsea as people expect but he'll still bag goals against us for fun.

Goes missing in too many games for that imo
He goes missing because teams put two and 3 players on him because we have absolutely nothing else to scare them.

In a team of other stars the opposition won't be able to do this. Of course that team would also then have to be setup to supply him like Madrid and Barca are for Ronaldo and Messi which is probably unlikely but if they were he would do the business.

Where in my post have I said he didn't want to be here?. I said that he doesn't want to be here. In this scenario there is a massive difference between past and present tense. He clearly doesn't want to be here otherwise he would have signed a new contract and wouldn't have said all those things in the press since the end of the season.

Neither was my post judgmental of Lukaku for wanting to leave. Nor Stones or Barkley for that matter. I was simply stating my view that if players don't want to stay and play for the club, we should be looking to get the best price possible for them, reinvest in new players, and move on.

FWIW I fully agree with you on the type of player we will HAVE to buy if we are to become the elite club we all want to be. A player who lacks ambition is unlikely, in my view, to be able to take us on to the next level. Until we move up to that level and are regularly winning trophies and competing in the Champions league, we're just going tp have to cope with this type of scenario.
I wasn't criticising you, simply pointing out that I wouldn't really say he was/is/will be unhappy to be here.

No offence but your post doesn't really challenge what I said at all. Would he rather be at United? Absolutely. Does that mean we can say definitively that he doesn't want to be here? Absolutely not. That's why I used the examples of other players, they don't really want to be here either, we're just the best option they've got. We weren't the best option Lukaku had, and he knew it. He didn't turn down the contract and speak to the press to engineer a move, he did it because he already knew the wheels were in motion. We'd told him he could leave and he knew teams wanted him so a deal would be done. Had that not been the case, I have no doubt he'd have gone out this season and performed exactly he has over the past 4, when he didn't really want to be here either.
