The fact that everyone can see his obvious flaws should indicate to everyone that 100m was never really on the table. If there hadn't been reports of 100m being the price, I imagine no one would have much issue. He's not worth a world record fee, and everyone can see that. Also, I don't get the argument of having to NOW replace the 25 goals. Even if we'd given Kone or Valencia all of the Rom minutes from last season, they'd likely have been able to bag 10-12 despite being nowhere near the same quality. Add another striker with the additions of Klassen and Sandro, and those goals are already well on their way to being replaced with possibly more on top.

Kone and Valencia have gone and it looks like Rom will very be gone very soon too.
Currently leaves us with Sandro and DCL as the only strikers. I would say we need at least 3 more attacking players
Is that Rooney on loan, and Martial on loan? Or Rooney on a permanent and Martial on loan?
If they're both on loan, then United need to cover more than half of the combined wages for the pair. Rooney is rumoured to be on £250k p/w, got to think Martial is on at least half of that, probably more.
If Rooney comes on a permanent then he's got to take a fairly big cut in wages - down to about £120k p/w - or we will have half-a-dozen other players demanding pay rises which in combination will cause us problems. The players we have sold were all on well under £80k per week, as are the remaining squad members - we can't have Coleman, RFM, Gana, Schneiderlin, Mirallas and Bolasie all pointing at Rooney and saying "Well he's on £250k p/w so I want £180k", because that would put an extra £700k to £800k p/w on the payroll.
Better not sell him for 75m, 100m and it a penny under please Everton.

Speaking only strikers, we have 2, both who CAN serve a purpose wide. Bring in 1 more as the defacto starter, and we're ok in that space. Agreed we need another wide option though. Possibly another AM if Barkley goes.
