Everton and Chelsea Charged - Ivanovic let off

Chelsea play the media game so well

He and other members of staff at Chelsea were disappointed at Roberto Martínez’s post-match comments, in which the Everton manager said that Ivanovic’s “behaviour is wrong” and that he deserved to be sent off. “He grabs him around the neck in a forceful manner, then puts his head against him when James McCarthy didn’t react,” Martínez said.

Chelsea have also been furious at the Sky Sports News coverage of the incident, alleging that it has been one-sided. They were unhappy, for example, that the channel did not dwell on their contention that McCarthy had stepped on Ivanovic’s foot, just before he leaned in towards the Evertonplayer.

They have also questioned Martínez’s assertion that McCarthy was an entirely innocent party, when he had run over to enter the melee which followed the second yellow card for Everton’s Gareth Barry. The FA has charged both clubs with failing to control their players – they have until 6pm on 17 February to respond. Chelsea are upset at the charge.

Everton believe that the pictures speak for themselves and McCarthy was the victim of a headbutt by Ivanovic in a game that they lost 1-0 to Willian’s last-minute goal. But an FA panel disagreed after the matter was referred to them on Thursday when the referee, Jon Moss, admitted that he had not seen the incident. Ivanovic, for his part, has maintained that he did not butt McCarthy. The panel studied footage of the clash from every available angle and they concluded that it was not sufficient to have merited a red card. Consequently, Ivanovic has avoided further action.

It's truly pathetic of the FA, but entirely expected.

McCarthy gets booked for next to nothing while Van Persie gets away with a blatant elbow to the throat against WHU without so much a talking to from the ref... and Stevie Me gets away with a tackle from behind, and it was Michael Owen who described it as such, against Spurs without so much as a talking to from the ref.

And given that Stevie Me is on his Farewell Tour, he would practically have to kill someone to get a red card between now and the end of the season. The media fawning over him has and will seriously pressure officials not to send him off and spoil his swan song final couple of months.

just left some tweets on the F.A twitter account. probably get deleted but you wouldn't expect anything else from this corrupt organisation. make uefa look straight.

I think it is the lack of consistency that is annoying - Benteke got a straight red for raising his hand to a player whilst the following week sure I saw a player get away with pretty much the same thing scot free.

Howard putting his head into Costa at Goodison could easily have been a red and wasn't - what Ivanovic did could have been a red and wasn't. One of those rare instances where things even up against the same opponents in the same season really.

Not charging Ivanovic doesn't bother me in the least.

Why should it?

It ain't like it will benefit us.

In fact, come to think of it we may actually be disadvantaged by a retrospective suspension if he missed games against teams around us in the league table.

The truly unbelievable thing for me is that they can claim the the referee didn't see it when there are countless photographs of him looking straight at it from a distance of about eight inches.

If he can't see past the end of his nose, no wonder he's so sh*te.

Barry deserved to go but the carry on out of them lot was embarrassing.

I see stuff like that last night and the FA's decision and i'm genuinely falling out of love with Football.

Everton being behind turd this season has me well out of love with football.

We meet up occasionally for one nighters though.

Have to confess that our poor early form turned me off football a bit. But now the old Everton (2013/14) is coming back and we are starting to see sweeping attacking movements (albeit, sensibly, on the counter)...and I cannot wait for our next game.
