Seen an interesting debate in another thread about this topic. My view is that they do not go together but I respect some of you may hold some strong views otherwise.

I made this civil thread to help maintain the peace as per Moderator request.

Sectarianism is still a problem in Scotland. It's a lot better than it used to be, and I'm confident it will only get better as more and more young folk realise how ridiculous it is, but I believe currently there are more orange order marches in Strathclyde than there are in the North of Ireland

I have no interest in any religion myself, though I respect everyone's right to believe in whatever they choose. I believe sectarianism is being anti another religion. I have no interest in, or dislike of, or any religion. I only dislike people who are bigots, particularly anti-Catholic ones.

However what is banter or slagging off (whichever you prefer) between supporters of two rival clubs has somehow been marked down as sectarianism by some people on this forum.

On the Nathan Patterson thread I was accused of sectarianism in January, and again earlier this evening. Each time I have asked for evidence of even one post I have made that could even remotely be described as sectarian to be posted, and I would delete it, and apologise to the other posters on here. So far, I haven't seen one post made.

Not only have I not made any sectarian posts in the time I've been on here, I don't remember seeing any from any Rangers fans on here either.

I was accused of being involved in a hundred year sectarian war, or something like that, on the Nathan Patterson thread but I think that was from another Everton fan who somehow saw my single post wondering what Patterson had done in the last 6 months for his value to double, and became enraged and somehow saw the result of a hundred year sectarian war.

Ok for the record.

Everton and Liverpool were formed from a Welsh Methodist church which is neither Protestant nor Catholic but perhaps errs on the side of Protestantism.

There is a CofE church in the corner of Goodison, and an influx of Irish players in the ‘50’s resulted in a large Irish following.

Neither reds nor blues are strictly Catholic or Protestant, and there is no allegiance between any of these four clubs aside from scousers and Glaswegians being the salt of the earth.

We don’t need religion in football and we on Merseyside realised this 70 years ago.

One of my friends lived in Liverpool when he was a young boy, I think in the late 60's. His dad used to go and watch Everton. His dad told him anti-Catholic bigotry was worse in Liverpool back then than it was in Glasgow.

In the 50’s yea it was without doubt.

However things have moved on entirely since then.

With the Patterson thread closed its the latest spot to watch Davek duck and weave like a young Ali
He’s just the very best. I’m sure some of them know what he’s doing and still end up raging and never ever pinning him down. He should be premium content you have to subscribe for, it’s been a privilege to witness his journey on here.

My mate was born in 1963, so it must have been after that. I assume it was the late 60's. I'll ask him tomorrow, if I remember.

He still goes down to Goodison now and again with his son. I think he said he was going down again later in the season, but I may be getting mixed up there.
