That would have been a penalty in any of the premier League games under var.

Another weekend, another VAR controversy
BBC Sport looks at another day of VAR controversy in the Premier League.www.bbc.co.uk
Its got people talking. I'm sure it will be fixed so that today will be the only time a penalty has been badly awarded by VAR.
Agreed! Both were penaltiesNot really, he didn't just clip his foot, he full on trod on it.
The richarlison one was also a penalty.
You win some! You lose some" Just get on with it. Its only football!Would it? You mean like all those other probable penalties that should have been given since August that haven't?
Agreed! Both were penalties
You need to have a decent striker to start getting some VAR decisions to maybe give us a chance.. We ain,t got ONE decent striker in the whole club!Even if you said it was a foul even if it was accidental, Silva is right in saying that it's about being consistent with the decisions. He's actually focusing on the right thing given you'll always have people arguing that he stepped on his foot and it's a foul, the point being made is that if VAR is now looking at all those incidents and the ref is being overruled on his decision then we're going to be having massive amounts of penalties every season. The frustrating thing is we all know already that that will never happen, they'll just carry on using it at random because the referees don't have a clue what they're doing with it. In it's trial form that's happening right now every manager should have been given the ability to force a VAR check and make the referees accountable for the decisions they're making.
Our game today alone showed how broken the system is when it's used at random, you'll have pundits saying they got it wrong but it doesn't correct that it ruined the game, nor will the referees ever be questioned over how bad their decisions are. VAR isn't helping the game by removing controversial decisions, it's creating new ones while also ruining the game from a supporter point of view so what's the point?
Agreed! He did make a meal of it but he did connect. Many players would have done the same. Its wrong but football sadly has moved to this level.A step on the foot doesn’t cause the type of reaction that Connolly had, referee had it spot on in not giving it
