With all the appointments it definitely seems that Thelwell is not a doer in all of this and more a facilitator. He is the one that will pick these people and then parrot what they say back to the board.

Saying that it might be a bit harsh on him given he will work with the board to get a budget and then presumably work with all these department heads to see who is best to buy or have we got a player in the academy to fill a particular gap.

Do we know the spec of the role or remit? Do we know what influence he had at Brighton, i noticed at the time that Potter brought a lot of the scouting backroom team with him to Chelsea, seems this guy may have been one of many as opposed to thinking we are defo just going to recruit like Brighton now.

Not minimising the lad at all, but prob good just to have realistic expectations.

I dont even know what a scouting head of operation does, is it analytics, is it watching games, is it shortlisting recruitment or is it just telling scouts where to go on a Tues night.

It looks like Sargesson has taken over Dan Purdy‘s old role and Purdy has been promoted up to “ Head of Recruitment “ . So now read Lee Sargeson as Head of Scouting Operations instead of Dan Purdy Scouting and Operations Manager. Purdy hardly got a mention when he was appointed, we’ve created an additional position and it looks like Sargesson reports to Purdy, but who knows ?‍♂️

Isn't that what the club needs? A network. The suspicion has been it's a few people doing the lot. Brighton et Al have a whole team that's what we are building it looks like

There has always been layers just were they doing the job correctly? Like @blueloon said above, the old person in this role has been promoted up to be above this new guy. So you have your scouting network that report to the new guy, who reports to the old guy, who therefore still reports to Thelwell. If this bloke from Brighton brings better methods to identify the best up and coming players and the people above sign off and are able to secure these players then great - if they don't or he doesn't provide the right targets it's just another buffer for the layers above.

I'm totally open minded but someone seems superfluous in all of this.
