Everton confirm rejecting 28M for both Fellaini and baines

United's stirring through media lapdogs is having the desired effect.

Unsettling us as fans so imagine what it is like for the individuals involved. I actually think this has become far worse than when Rooney left as it is technically one of our own who is attempting to exploit and pillage on our good nature. Truly disgusting.

If an acceptable amount was bid (50 million for example) we would at least as a club have something to consider.
The game in April cannot come soon enough. Shame it is at the end of the season although it would be ace to end any lingering hopes of silverware at Goodison for that shower.

If he really did ask for this before the pre-season then I highly doubt we wouldn't have heard about this until now. And I doubt very much that the Independant would be the newspaper to break the story.

Sam wallace the journo who broke the story isn't manchester based. It's not like james ducker, ian herbet or jamie jackson are reporting it. Sam wallace is based in london and normally covers chelsea.

If Baines leaves it's gonna be very weird seeing United play, because I really want Moyes to fail bigtime, but Baines has been such a great servant for the club and a true pro that I would like him to have success when he leaves us.

Can't be arsed getting into a mass debate, but there are plenty of people who disagree with you, and think that he is far stronger playing upfront than he is in midfield.

He is massively overrated by Evertonians, I've actually just seen someone claim that Modric is an inferior midfielder to Fellaini. That's why he was bought by Real Madrid for over 30 million, and not a single club was interested in paying 23million for Fellaini.

If he was half as good as some people make him out to be, then there would be a lot more interest from other clubs and not just Man United who are now being run by an obviously desperate David Moyes, and even Moyes is unwilling to bid over 20 million for him.

He is a good player, but his creativity is minimal, and he is nowhere near as strong defensively as some people make him out to be. You would think he was the greatest midfielder in Everton's history the way some people go on.

I don't get how you can say he's not as strong defensively as some people make him out to be. Here are quotes from the Opta Index site regarding his 2011/12 season, the last season he played for us in CM:

–Marouane Fellaini won more tackles, ground duels, aerial duels and made more passes than anyone else at the club.
Marouane Fellaini was also second in the league with 84 tackles, and won the ball 190 times in midfield, by far the most in the top flight.

Are we talking about the same player here?

Baines is a bit different. He is a left back, he is older and he has never had a release clause that nobody was interested in activating. There are very few clubs who would be willing to pay over 12 million for a nearly 29 year old left back.

Whereas there are quite a few clubs that are in the market for a top class midfielder, and the going rate is 25million pound+ for the top players. Fellaini was available for 23million and not a single club activated his release clause, the only club to show an interest is David Moyes Man United, and even he is unwilling to bid over 20 million.

I wasn't comparing the two in terms of situation, in was comparing the fact that no other club no matter how big or small has come in for Baines over his 6 years at being with us.

The only noted club was Bayern who soon cooled. Fellaini also had interested from Chelsea not so long ago (his dad angled for that move for years).

There's also a lot more to it than just basing how we rate a player on who came in for him. David Platt confirmed Man City wanted Cavani, but weren't willing to pay the £55million or whatever release clause. Do they not rate him that highly?

If Fellaini 's clause had a well known expiry date, why not wait and try to get him cheaper?

Also, he's first and foremost a defensive midfielder. Who spends £20+million on one... Unless you Man City?

I no why we haven't spent any money on players. They have blown the sky money on the toilets in the Gwlayds street

So you cannot pick a phone up and say here's X amount to print this?

IF this (none) story was true it would have been aired well before now. I am genuinely surprised in this day and age that tabloids even exist anymore. Other than the occasional holiday flight I havn't bought a newspaper for over a decade.

Yes, we are, and it's a subject that has been done to death on here. But defensive competence involves far more than just tackling. He isn't some defensive midfield maestro who provides excellent cover for his back four.

It will be a great day when someone works out how to produce statistics that documents a player's positioning and their reading of the game.

Seems to me like United are trying to ratchet up the pressure on us to sell Baines by releasing this through one of their friendly journos. They/Moyes are probably onto Leighton or his agent every day pushing him to act and letting him know how unreasonable we are being. I think the ball, though, is still very much in our court. Unless Baines puts in a formal transfer request I think he will stay - and I can't see him putting a transfer request in. The other option would be for them to offer an amount that we deem acceptable.
The story as its been reported may well be true - Baines tells the club that if an offer came in that the club felt was acceptable then he would have no objection to leaving etc. Doesn't mean he is agitating for a move, though.

I'm not really arsed about Baines and Fellaini wanting to win stuff with Man u, our club comes first and if Man u wont pay the price then we should stand firm and tell them they have a contract with us.

Exactly. In fact, it's too late now. Man Utd can koff.

We need to keep everyone bar Heitinga. Add a CM and a replacement for Johnny to the squad and we will be ok.
