I'm an Arsenal fan and in all honesty, I have been very impressed with Everton this season. There is no doubt that you guys would deserve it if you achieved 4th place. We have very very outdated training methods at Arsenal which causes a high number of injuries every season, it could easily cost us 4th place.

Cheers lad, tbh you've not looked the same since Ramsay went out injured really, derailed your season big time

Since when did it take them to a different level? That's utter garbage. Liverpool have always had hype behind them. There will always be 8 million ex-Reds doing tv punditry, whether Istanbul happened or not. They will always have a core fanbase based outside the city and overseas. They are a brand, not a football club. In the same way the Harlem Globetrotters aren't actual a sports franchise representing the people of Harlem.

Anyone who would rather we lose so that they lose, rather than we win and not caring what they do, well.... you really having a very strange idea of 'supporting Everton'. You basically hate Liverpool more than you love Everton, which is quite frankly ridiculous.

Not that old chestnut about hating them more than loving us. You clearly don't understand the point I'm trying to make. If you love Everton you want them to once again become THE city club. We are in direct competition with the RS for investment, for sponsorship, and for the hearts and minds of the city's generations of kids. With this reality in mind I'm sorry but I just can't be relaxed about them becoming league champions.

By the way they weren't such 'a brand' before Istanbul. Yes, they had a larger national and global support than most, but they were playing in front of less than 40,000 at Anfield shortly before that game. That win relaunched them after years of slow decline and had they not fluked it (and in the manner they did) there they would not be the media darlings they are now with all the stature and extra generated support that comes with that.

We didn't though did we. That fluke took their support and status to a different level and we've never clawed ourselves back closer to them since. Their winning the PL would take them even further away from us, both support-wise and commercially. Our taking part in the CL (probably briefly) would do a bit to keep us holding onto their coat-tails but the gap between us would nevertheless widen. For that reason, with a great pain in my heart, if it comes to it, I'd sacrifice CL qualification if it meant the 3 pts we lost to City stopped the RS from winning the league.

Another reason that this '5th and they don't win the league' idea is utterly flawed:

If they don't win the league, they will still qualify for the CL, finishing in the top 4.
If we don't finish in the top 4 but they do, they will earn a ton of CL money, whilst we won't.

So this idea you speak of, of 'LFC putting themselves on a different level' - this will happen regardless! We might as well join them on the CL gravy train and earn money too. Them in the CL and us not will see us fall even further behind them, something you bemoan in your post!

Nobody wants them to be the champions - but this idea that we should settle 5th as long as they don't win the league is flawed! There you go again, talking about us falling behind them - we WILL FALL BEHIND THEM if they are in the CL and we are not!

It's being in the CL and getting the CL money that makes the difference, not actually winning the league.

We have finished above them in each of the last two seasons.
If we are in the Champions League we are competing with them, rather than playing in the Thursday night Cup.
We are Everton, not Anti-Liverpool FC. I just want the Blues to maximise their potential and I don't give a flying fcuk where the [Poor language removed] finish.

It's frustrating because I think we'll just come up short. If we do we'll be unlucky really as the total points tally we'll likely end up with would have got us in there most years.

It's been an incredible season.

Tbh my main worry is finishing fourth, then getting knocked out in qualifying round..then it's all for nothing!

Why do you think we'll come up short? I saw people post that before the Newcastle and before the Fulham game?

When was the last time Everton scored 6 goals in 2 away games, back to back, within 5 days?
It's 12 years since we last had 5 straight wins in the league.

If ever there was a time that we won't come up short, it will be this season.

Yeah, supporting city if it meant missing out on Europa was something i would've supported, but top 4..no chance.

New tv deal, surplus money from the last two windows and the CL money...surely Blue Bill would have to give us £40m or so to spend.
