It's the one I'm responding to. Hypotheticals are meaningless when there's a real, immediate situation at hand.
They're both hypothetical.
There's no guarantee that beating city will either get us 4th or get liverpool 1st. Depending on the games before then both positions could already be decided.
My hypothetical, that it won't matter to us but it will matter to liverpool, is just as likely as the one you answered where it matters to both.

This thread is embarrassing and we look idiots for even giving it serious consideration. If this is our mindset we don't deserve any success.
Kills me to say it - I'd still want Everton to win, even if it was meaningless to us and gave them the title.
Everton losing blackens my weekends, Liverpool winning only dims it slightly. Doesn't matter what the stakes are. Everton are all that matter, I would not be happy with us rolling over.
Admittedly, the loss would hurt a hell of a lot less than normal though.
Obviously 4th > anything about them.

I must admit on looking at the poll results I cannot fathom why I voted for fifth.....(beer may have been involved....) As someone mentioned earlier I've put up with the RS since they crawled up from the old 2nd division so although I cant stand them if they win the league then so what? I want us to win ALL our remaining games - who knows 3rd may not be out of the question COYB !!
and not only winning them, but going the match fully expecting to win.

Well, I've been waiting for us to win the league again since '87. It peed me off watching whoever won it because it weren't Everton. Sure it would pee me off a bit more to see them lot win it, but not much more than watching no-marks like Leeds and Blackburn win it, or 'used to be no-marks' such as Chelski and Citeh.
So in summary. 4th place please blues. "We don't care what the red side say."

To make matters worse, Distin said he was against it in an interview today, which now gives the stupid fcking thing more air and to more people. Bloody hell fire.
Simply can't understand that. If we were, say, 11th, last game of the season, couldn't change our final place, and a loss meant that lot didn't win the league, then not only would I DEFINITELY want an Everton loss, I'd be pretty bloody angry if we won it. The "so what you won it, we basically gave you it on a plate" aspect would be fun for about 3 seconds until the upside down scarf brigade got into gear.
To say you want to win every game regardless of the scenario seems like a very black and white view of the world to me. Sometimes there's a grey area as far as I'm concerned.
