So what if us beating City meant we we're guaranteed 3rd, but it also confirmed that Liverpool would win the league? Discuss.

Considering almost 90% have said they'd take fourth and RS title I doubt making it third will make much difference. It's bad enough that RS bring it up as if it's a fact we would rather lose to City to screw them over (when on our own board without them watching -- well without many of them watching ... the vast majority don't give a crap as long as we get fourth) ... I'm not sure why we are dignifying it with this much discussion. Almost 90% ... it's done ... we don't care ... take the title ... we need fourth (or third!) and a shot at Rom.

I'd take 4th. It shouldn't matter if they win the league, after all:

We don't care what the red [Poor language removed] say!

It is becoming abundantly clear to me that this issue means a lot more to the people whom actually live in the Merseyside area and have to live in the wake of the "aftermath".

If the TX in your name stood for Toxteth rather than, I presume, Tejas then you most probably would be somewhat "concerned" with it :p

It's absolutely a fair point. But getting in the CL would allow Everton fans to stand tall and square our shoulders in any debate with any Red.

The more interesting debate is slightly hypothetical but could come into play if we fail to turn up against Sunderland and Palace and United.

If Everton were out of the CL hunt by the City game...let's say we drew all three games and Arsenal won their next two.

Would you want Everton to beat City then if it meant handing the title to them? That's a much tougher questions.

If that were the case, I would fully support Roberto's plan to give the youngsters an opportunity to gain valuable game time for the remaining matches.

Still would want us to beat City.

If that was the scenario, then likely we'd be battling with United and Spurs for 5th, 6th and 7th. Throwing a game and costing ourselves Europe altogether? No chance for me.

If we are out the CL hunt when City come and they need to take sommat from us to stop the RS winning the Title?

Am I right in thinking that is the question you ask?

If it is, then there is nowt "tough" about it.

Of course I would rather see City get what they need to stop the RS winning it.

In that circumstance it is a no brainer.

Now, let me make it quite clear here because certain boys on this thread, either through difficulties with comprehension or who are being willfully obtuse, want to twist my words.

I will gladly hold my nose, look the other way and refuse to read a newspaper or listen to TV or radio sports programmes for a month and help them win the league if it means us getting in the CL.

And I am one of the overwhelming number of posters on this board whom voted for that option in the Poll.

I will go one further even and say I would vote the same way if it was to get is in the Europa League.

Not making one or other of the European tournaments next season is now unthinkable for me.

But if there is no chance of one or other of those things happening then I would be perfectly happy for Bob to field a team of academy lids to gain useful experience against the potential champions...;)

Just another point to consider. 4th is probably the best we will finish but it might not guarantee CL if,and I stress if,Man Utd win CL.

I would put their odds of getting past Bayern at 20%, I would put their odds of lifting the trophy at 0.1%. Moyes is famous for brilliant cup runs that end in him collapsing under pressure.

Disagree.

We play to win - doesn't matter what the stakes are for other teams. If City can't beat us, they don't deserve the title.

I would expect Roberto to play some of the youth, but not to give the win to City, just because meaningless games are great experience. I would expect him to do that regardless of the opposition or scenarios if we had nothing to play for.

I'm all for hating them, but I can't fathom ever wanting Everton to lose.
