We may not get there, but if we hope to become a team that challenges for the league/CL competition consistently you have to start somewhere.

I just don't think we've got the right people at the helm (Bobby aside) to exploit a CL campaign and improve our predicament in any noticeable way. We'd only be outspent heavily the following season by the team we usurped and struggle to become a genuine CL team.

Call me a pessimist, but that's just what happens when you follow Everton.

Thing is. What's so bad about Europa? I'd love to be in it. People talk about the financial importance but likely Man U, Spurs and Arsenal will spend and we'll be out within a season. Why not have a real go at winning the Europa? Surely that's MORE ambitious. That's my point. We go from Champs League qualifier to Europa League group stage, they go from 2nd or 3rd to title winners. It's a big trade off.

The argument of wanting us to lose (under any circumstance) aside, I do think 4th is slightly overrated, with respect to Everton.

Don't get me wrong, I'd jizz like a fountain if we finished 4th, but what does it bring? We'd be battered by most of the top CL teams and the money? Well, I just don't trust the current Everton regime to be honest. If we got £20m of CL money, how much of that would we really see turn into signings?

Players like Lukaku who want to play in CL & better loans from teams who want their young players to get that experience
