If there is a Hajduk graffiti near the bar, it's probably cheap.
But of course, if you have to drink you beer in the center or on the beach, you will have to pay for that.

But you should do what locals do, buy a beer in the market and go chill on Matejuška or Sustipan

There are cheap bars all over the place, just get outside the walls. Beer would be about 1,5£, pizza or pasta about 5£, meat dishes around 5-8£ and it would be much better than game day breakfest I used to eat at Goodison road...

I posted earlier about possibly being in Croatia if the 2nd leg was away. I forgot that I am in the north in Pula and not closer as I was last year. A seven hour each way bus journey possible, with an overnight return. Alternatively a ferry or even a domestic flight. A rail journey out of the question it would seem. Will Mrs Towne notice I have gone missing or should I take her with me.

I'm from Dalmatia but not from Split so cant give you direct tips unfortunatley,

Im pretty sure there is a ferry from Zadar to Split, would be a more interesting journey than by coach.
