Everton FC website

The sleeping giant that is EFC is awaking and making great strides in the transfer market, but every time I go to the website Im astounded at just how bad it is.

As a team that is trying to raise its international profile, a quality website is the first port of call for those that want to know more about us. If we are happy to (potentially) spend £50m on players then we should spend £50k on a quality site with a great user experience.

Does anyone know anything about who looks after the site?

Oh and to answer your question - the build is rippleeffect (owned by Trinity Mirror/Liverpool Echo)

The EFC site is plop. As an international member i wanted to make the most of my "free (with your membership) streams for preseason games" but instead it was quicker to go to the EFC Facebook and watch it there... For free

It's terrible.

The company who make it and well do all of Everton's digial and marketing stuff is Ripple Effect. Derreck Hatton used to be a director and his son was managing director there for a while. It got bought by Trinity Mirror a few years a go and has since been bought by a company called Idox.

I don't recall the last time I used the OS. I just switch between GOT, NewsNow and Twitter. Last time I used the website was to click-through to ticketing or Everton Direct.

Pre-season broadcast coverage is pretty crap, but that's like 2 visits a year!

Thats the spirit!? : (
Mate we won't even finish above seventh.

As I said, Im not going to undertake a usability report to outline some of the heuristic issues with the site because Ill need to charge an hour price and that will make Gilfy look like a steal. ; )

You can all see from the comments that some people just dont care, they use the site to get tickets (local supporters) and for that it works. For others (mostly international or away fans) want to get information about the club or (more importantly) want to feel like part of the family, for that the site doesnt work. The proof is in the comments above.

Im not saying this is as big an issue as having limited cover for Baines, but with this new forward thinking marketing strategy (which I agree with), we should have a face to the club that is usable, up to date and looks slick.

The firm that is responsible for the UX and design of the site needs to start researching who uses it and what they want to do. Interrogate the analytical data, record live usage, understand primary user journeys and gather insight. They can then start to produce basic wireframes on this research and insight to test with user groups. Iterate on those concepts and create a quality digital product inline with the quality football team and new marketing strategy.

Here's my issue with the site:

I have a myriad of passwords for various things and I've forgotten which one is for the Everton official site. I use it mainly to watch the highlight packages of the latest games as it's not likely I'll be ordering tickets in the foreseeable future. When I try to use what I think is the right password, I get an "Oops, something went wrong" message. Ditto with the other passwords. So I try to register and start a new account. I put in all the proper information -- name, e-mail address, home address, etc. -- then when I hit the "submit" button, it takes me right back to the start of the registration process. Aggravating doesn't begin to describe it.

Yep, this UX 101, getting stuck in a black hole of forgot passwords is totally amateur. Making users create overly complex passwords and not giving clear instruction, no help when users add their user name (or is it an email?) and dodgy password recovery with no links back to where you were is so frustrating.

If anyone knows of someone to talk to about this in the club Id love to have a chat/email with them. Im not just trying to moan and not do anything, I can pass over some things that might help.

Not sure where to begin, the site is terrible. Did anyone watch the game today? Did you find the live stream easy? To say that 'other clubs have worse sites' is crazy. Thats the same as saying some clubs have rubbish stadiums so why should we have a better one. The website is the face of the club for those that want to know more. If we want to win things its going to come from every aspect of the club, more people like the site and can find content they like means more shirts sold and tickets bought. Its all part of the same thing.

Im not going to bore everyone with a detailed usability audit. Id like to know who if anyone reads the messages sent to club about it.
it was pretty easy to find on facebook... i was quite relieved that i didn't have to search my dodgy russian or arabic sites

Nonsense mate. I am an international fan, have been for 26 years. I use the Official website for tickets only... or the odd check of the fixture calendar. i get back for 5-10 home games per season, 3-5 aways, plus most European away games, if we are qualified. It is common knowledge that the OS is the last to publish breaking news, there are much faster sources available! But I guess, using terms like UX and wireframes, your post was mainly intended to exclude the non-geek population in order to build ego....
