Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Just going off past evidence, don’t think there’s been a single player come straight from an Eastern European league and step up to a big league straight away let alone the prem of the top of my head for as long as I can remember . Odds aren’t in the lads favour especially at our basket case of a club

Don't get how this will improve our squad. Far too much money for someone completely unproven. We might not even get that sort of fee for Digne!!

We need to stop chucking 20m + a pop at nothing players

Don’t ask reasoned questions in the transfer thread.

I wouldn’t even mind if long term this is the plan. We can get money back on Digne as he’s 28, on a big contract etc. That’s fine.

You don’t do it in the middle of the season. Fans need to grasp that.

This could actually be a sensible move - we’re planning on selling Digne in the summer so we’re going to give this lad 6 months to bed in. Should have done that with Gbamin and Gana, for example.

But no, fans (and probably our manager) get excited and think real life is like FIFA and you can just replace like for like. Then the 22-yr-old LB you’ve punted your entire budget on has a few bad games and suddenly Godfrey is back in there, never getting the chance to actually develop as a centre-back because he’s always playing full-back

Bit weird when we are desperate for a right full back and we are buying a left full back.

20m on this player is ridiculous business. I can't support this, it's just more of the same old rubbish.

Likely two windows transfer budget. I could think of many other positions id like to see strengthened before left back.

….I expect there’s a deal done with Digne for similar monies to the Ukranian LB.

He looks some athlete, a real powerhouse and that’s what we need across the back four.

Im really quite bewildered at the push back to this.

Mykolenko has been really highly regarded for about 2-3 years now as one of the new wave of emerging top left backs. He's 22 and Digne will be 29 before next season.

If Coleman was sold 3 seasons ago and we had signed Hakimi or even Reece James back then we wouldnt be in the position we are now at right back.

This kid can play left centre back as well and is known to be athletic, quick, aggressive and signals--at least to me--a high potential signing.

Dignes book value is about £6-7mil a deal at e.g £26mil opens up circa £20mil to spend in Jan...of which this kid would instantly take up under £4mil per FFP.

Mykolenko and a similar quality and profile young right back make perfect sense...while being ahead on FFP....for once.

We all complain about smashing FFP but this is a good move.

My guess is Godfrey stays left back and Mykolenko is gradually introduced. Probably needs the rest of the season to adapt.

Highly promising.

28 the new 30 now?

It's generally the peak of a players career if you can get it out of them. But that's just me.

For getting the most out of player sales it is the peak really isn't it.

This is what we should be doing though selling our players at their peak and reinvesting in younger cheaper options. Or else you end up with a squad of old players on big wages and no money coming in... basically how we've been run for the last 5 years.

look at kane, 28 in the summer and city are willing to pay £120m for the lad. Next summer he'll be 29, a year less on his contract and has had a poor season. How much is he worth then? Half of that?

With regards to the benitez/digne bust up you can take it or leave it but I heard the other day digne asked for a transfer a few months ago. Add the fact we've got some kid ready to come in to replace him with how long it takes us to do deals generally, that means to me this has been rumbling on in the background for a while and I'd imagine dignes agent already has a move sorted for him.

Now I'm not defending benitez here I imagine digne wants out because he doesn't like how he's being played but he played because he's a professional and its gotten to boiling point and they've had a bust up and benitez has dropped him because that's they type of person he is and now it looks as if digne doesn't want to play because he probably has a move lined up in January so he's saying he's ill.

The point is though we need to sell badly and unfortunately digne is our best asset to sell in January and let us strengthen because we badly need to strengthen this team. Then Richarlison is our transfer kitty in the summer and DCL is gone the next summer. Thats what I believe will happen and we've just got to hope that whoever is in charge get the transfers right.

Brentford killed it for me.

Tbh mate that was the one game during this bad run that I thought we did "ok" in.

Front 3 of Gordon, Rondon, Iwobi - conceeded a penalty and should have had a pen ourselves if our spineless players made a point to the ref over Rondon being manhandled in the box.

Palace away has been by far the worst for me!

If selling Digne for £25-30 millions allows us the FFP wiggle room to bring 2-3 in January its a no brainer.

Blokes 28 and been off form for a while.

The Red Echo reckons we want a RB & CM in January alongside this Ukranian lad.

Good business IF the players signed do the business.

Digne out and 3 players in while being well above on FFP for the season makes perfect sense.

He's been our most creative player since he signed.

He only gives fouls away because he's left one v one all the time.

You rightly say Coleman is poor. Why are we spending £17m on a left-back instead of a right-back?

Its not "instead" of a right back though.

Were selling Digne to create FFP room to be able to sign a left back and a right back surely...

...and possibly more than that.

we should be trying to get zakaria as the midfielder

Bad injury has knocked him back a fair bit.

Kamara at Marseille is the one or Tchouameni at Monaco.

The best solution would me Mykolenko learning from Digne for half a season. Not playing Godfrey there, out of position and negating the entire left side of our attack.

Doing that in the middle of the season is a dangerous game Zatman.

Especially when this is all I've seen of our new £17m man.

If this lad is good and we have a chance to sign him we should do it. We could have him, Godfrey, Branthwaite and a new young right back as our defence for the next five years.

Totally agree...

Pickford
??? Godfrey Branthwaite Mykolenko

If we can bring in Mykolenko and a top u23 aged right back then we'll see a new defence emerging and likely in place to start next season.

All three of those defenders are athletic, strong, aggressive and have pace.

If thats the foundation of our defence with the next step being the centre midfield then im all for it.
