No one would take on his wages, we’re stuck with him until his contract expires unfortunatelyWhy would the manager not sell a useless oaf?

Honestly I think a key reason is that he's very rarely injured. If we're going to continue playing a defensive style under Benitez then I think it suits Keane really well. In the past he's got caught out when we've tried to play a high line but gives his best performances in backs against the wall games. Why would the manager not sell a useless oaf?

His passing stats bear you out. He is under rated on that.Honestly I think a key reason is that he's very rarely injured. Also I think his long passing is underated. He's our best defender on the ball which is scary tbh.
But really my point wasn't about why he should and shouldn't be sold. I was just saying that logically he won't be. The obvious contenders to be sold are Mina because of his injuries and contract situation and Holgate because he just hasn't developed into a good defender. So assuming those 2 are the next 2 to go, Keane is safe for at least the next season imo.
Probably the same reason he was captain the other night, he rates him highly unfortunately!
It could just be that you are wrong.

It was noticeable that in this terrible run we've been on, Keane was one of the few players who has looked to play the ball forwards rather than hiding it with constant sideways and backwards passing.
He gets thrown in jail on the nonces wing, if he's guilty that is.Slightly off topic but what happens if siggy is found guilty? Do we get any money back? Would insurance cover it?
Compared to our current one which is doing so well...That starting defence gets you relegated.

My take on defending is that it's very much about relationships. Left back and centre back, right back and centre back, centre back pairing, centre backs and goalie. So there is a big benefit in not changing too much in one go.I just wrote an essay in reply to all these posts but it was too long so wouldnt post lol
To make things simple, if we sign Patterson and Mykolenko then next season we could look like this:
PickfordRB: Patterson / Coleman
Patterson Godfrey Branthwaite Mykolenko
CB: Godfrey / Branthwaite / Youngster
LB: Mykolenko / Nkounkou
The average age of the starters is 21.5.
If we sell Digne, Mina and Holgate we probably have £50mil...with about £30mil on the two full backs.
Do we then keep Keane as the captain and leader of the defence...
...or through selling were up about £30-35mil and £250k in wages saved.
That kind of money buys a true leader and star player at centre back to pair with Godfrey and Branthwaite.

In that regard, yes I'd be keeping Keane as the leader of the defence even though I have my doubts over some aspects of his game. Not forever but for the foreseeable future if I'm being honest.
