Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Your probably right . I was just thinking that RB wouldn't entertain playing Nkounkou as he is more like a LWB , the lad loves going forward and we all know that's banned with RB in charge
Is this lie still being pushed out despite watching Everton and seeing Godfrey attack from the LB position?

It's not so simple as attacking is banned but more of being tactically aware. Knowing when to go, when to hold, not leaving gaps at the back. Our CBs are not quick and tend to be vulnerable to counter attacks, therefore it is more important to be aware of your teammates position and not leaving them exposed. Its about the team, not individual.

You mean first team players for Celtic and Rangers? And you proved my point. Other teams bought them...Saints, Spurs, Hull, Villa, Arsenal and paid a decent amount for them.

This lad has played less than 20 league games in Scotland.
Someone said itscos the ranges captain is their rb otherwise Patterson would play every game

Yeh , I was being sarcastic based on the rumours that RB and Digne fell out because of him going forward too much , but I do get what you are saying

I'm not against it. I'm against them being brought in as replacements/upgrades.

Also that the fume from the fan base when Patterson doesn't play for months, Coleman and Holgate playing RB, and Mykolenko getting rinsed more than he's not...it's unfair.

And £30mill is 1 good first team player that could actually make a difference straight away.
But this is how it works. Dcl , Seamus branthwaite etc were not brought in as starters, that’s not how it works with younger players.
As for chucking 30 mil at players, look where that’s got us

Robertson had played 30ish for Queens Park and then a further 30 for Dundee United

Hardly top sides

McGinn was coming off a decent season at Hibs (A club I love but they aren't challenging the Old Firm any time soon)

After a certain point you have to be brave to take that gamble. From what I've seen, Patterson looks a player. He's doing it both at club level and at international level

Saints and Hull made a nice little profit on Van Dijk and Robertson respectively. That's how we have to view this

We take the gamble on Patterson, and if continues to develop as he already has then he either becomes a great player for us or we sell him on for a decent wedge (More than likely with a buy on clause added as well in case he moves for profit once again)

We'd wasted countless wedges on "proven" players. It's time to show some balls and make the gamble on a promising youngster. We were too scared to do so with Van Dijk and it bit us in the arse. Ditto with Tierney (I doubt he'd be having the same issues with Benitez as Digne is right now)

You need to do your research if you're writing off Patterson over his number of games. Rangers are top of the league and playing in Europe. He wouldn't be featuring for them as much as he has if he couldn't deliver the goods

It's not a lie. You can't attack without the ball, we never have it.

Ridiculous tactics.

While the jury is out on whether Rafael should be leading our transfer business three positives have emerged straight away:

One - with Brands out of the way, clearly decisions are being made quicker - if we can get the Ukrainian and Patterson in within the first week of January, then that is a huge step and structural change.

Second - skewing young and having resale top of mind. Rafael, for all his faults, has indicated that he is willing to consider the future when conducting transfer business. Carlo (rightly in some respects) wanted to buy experience and challenge for Europe immediately.

Three - similar to the second point, but the first signs of us utilising a more sustainable financial model where you buy young, and sell at 27/28. This model, which replicates quality European clubs like Dortmund etc... should allow us to challenge, while not killing ourselves from an FFP perspective.

You cannot argue that Rafael hasn't put a massive stamp on the club, in less than six months he has cleaned out recruitment and medical, while also starting to embrace the academy. He needs to improve tactically and with results, but at least he isn't content with the status quo of the last ten years.
Utterly ridiculous post

About for less than £5mill.

Spending £30+mill on the same level isn't for a team with aspirations of Europe, it's for a team who wants to recycle to run a business. It has to be a mix.

And it's how and who you chuck the money at which has been our issue...the principal has been fine.

We don't have it much and that is as much on the tactical set up as well as the quality of the players we have. Most of them are simply not good enough. I would expect to see an improvement when we sign better players. The positive side of things is that despite not having as much of the ball, we have still looked dangerous on the counter, creating chances and scoring goals. It's a work in progress.

But you can go either way here.

You can build a team, recycle and start again. Leicester is the perfect example. Sold Kante, Maguire brought in Maddison, Ndidi, Ricardo, Justin, Tielemans, Iheanacho…

You can sign players to sell for Profit and still be successful. Signing players at their peak leaves you in the position we’re in now, cash strapped and with a load of players people don’t want as they’re on the decline.

We’re not good enough for Europe because we’ve signed dross, and can’t amend the team, two new full backs shows we’re changing our approach.

Patterson and Mykonelko for £30 or Iwobi for £34m. Hopefully it’s the start of a smarter spending model.

Those players were 1st team players with regular game time (Mcginn 100 for Hibs, Robertson 100 for hull etc). They weren't prospects.

I'm not writing him off. I'm stating we're going to be spending north of £10million on basically an academy player. That's not replacing Coleman...that's Coleman still being senior RB for another 2 seasons at a push.

Like I've said...I'm not against it. But as your example pointed out... Leicester sold Kante and Maguire then added 1st team players with plenty of game time, genuine starters for the previous club's (and spent highly btw with Maddison being £25+mill and Tielemans £40mill, Iheamcho £25mill).

We sold Gana - never replaced him.
We sold Stones - Bought Ashley Williams.

Additionally I've already said, it's a mix. The idea we've bought high and bad doesn't mean we shouldnt be able to buy high again but with an agenda, a plan, rather than go the completely the other way.

The main point is £30mill on two players who aren't first team ready (at this level). A lot of fans won't see it like that especially if they don't play for a while or aren't playing well.
