Again, ridiculous. These players were good enough to be 2nd in the League this time last year so that argument that they aren't good enough doesn't hold water.
The fact of the matter is they aren't being coached well enough.
As for dangerous on the counter/scoring goals blah blah blah - I'm not sure what team you've been watching but for nearly this entire season it's certainly not 'Benitez's Everton'. 1 good half against Arsenal and hanging on against Chelsea certainly isn't anything to shout about.

The fact we were second isn’t solely on the fact we were better coached (which I’m not saying we weren’t) but a combination of luck, fixtures and the fact other teams weren’t doing so well. In the summer everyone has strengthened bar us because of the lack of money spent, but that’s not Benitez’s fault is it. The one signing he’s made that was meant to be a first teamer is now already one of our best players, I’m excited to see who else he can bring in.
2 young full backs would at least show a plan. I know nothing about the Ukranian lad, but I've seen Patterson play in the Europa and for Scotland and I think he can be very good.

I'd be speechless if this feller were signed by Benitez.
Benitez since he arrived has stressed he wants a defensive commitment from his FBs. That lad Patterson cant defend. He is anorther winger adapted (poorly) into a FB.
I can only think that he'll be used sparingly this season (if he does come here - and I wouldn't believe all the chatter, because if it's not a rock bottom fee it wont be happening) while he learns how to defend. He wont displace Coleman in any hurry.
But if we sign him, how can it not be a Benitez signing? Who else could it be? You think the club hierarchy will sign a long-term target without his approval.
You need a variety of players in your squad. You ideally need defensive and offensive full backs, or ideally someone who can do both, so you can be adaptable. Like we play Hull in 2 weeks, do we really want our full backs camped on our own 18 yard line against lower league opposition?
Both of these players are young, so it's pretty likely they can also improve as defenders. I don't know any full backs who peak defensively at like 20-22.

FFS, there's hardly any team we can luxuriate in playing defenders against who cant defend.
We are not a top half team, never mind a top team.
I just read Dominic King's article on this and it says Patterson is Benitez number 1 full back target. Who knows if that's totally correct, but it definitely looks like he is interested at the very least.

Yeah never said we were a top team, absolutely not. But that's the aim at some point in the future, so we need to sign better players who can help us play like a proper football team.
So if it happens, it is then? Just making sure I know which hat to put on each signing before they flop/excel.
