It's funny how Zat doesn't learn. You'll find posts of him saying build around Holgate, then Godfrey (who he hasn't given up on yet but will do once someone else is in the frame) and now it'll be Branthwaite (who I rate too but it is EARLY) with no awareness of how he's making the same mistake and jumping the gun. Potential is great but you need substance too. Players rarely go from below average or championship level to world class.
Meanwhile Michael Keane continues to be our rock. It's a shame we've not put a useful team together since 2019.

As much as I don't want to agree with Big Oil, he is actually correct. There is a reason that all our recent managers keep picking Keane. These days it's all about the numbers (I am aware that a large portion of our fanbase seem to struggle with this concept) and Keane's numbers have been better than any of our other CB for the last couple of seasons now. I'm no fan of his btw, and I would replace all of our CB tomorrow if I could.

He's been our best CB over the last 5 years. That's not even a troll or joke. The only other candidates are Mina who hasn't played nearly enough or Zouma who was here one season and (bizarrely) people didn't rate.

Yeah I'm not really claiming he's world class. But he's clearly solid enough that he's hung around this long. I said a week or so ago he's a functional player who is more than fine when everything else functions but falls apart just as quick when the other parts of the team do.

Yeah people didn’t rate him because him and Keane put in some of the worst defensive displays we’ve ever seen when paired together. Also Keane being a mainstay in our team for the last 5 years isn’t saying anything because we’ve been a car crash for the last 5 years.

While I think if we had to say, you may be right. However, having watched every game during that time I am of the belief that if we had an award ceremony for the last 5 years it should be cancelled as there is nothing to celebrate in being the best turd in the bowl

Makes me laugh at times on here, people ripping into our transfer strategy for the last 10 years (rightly so), then expect us to sign about 7 players including youngsters and expect it to work seamlessly.
The truth is half the players who should be gone, will still be here at least next season, and if we were lucky enough to sign 7 players I would expect 2/3, maybe 4 if we are really lucky to work out.

I think it is clear that we don’t have the scouting department capable of spreading its resources to suitably look at 3-4/5+ signings.
I don’t think any club has had real prolonged success in bringing in multiple players every year. Personally, I think the golden number is 2 first teamers each summer window and maybe 1 in January with either a few loans or young prospects for depth.
