While I think if we had to say, you may be right. However, having watched every game during that time I am of the belief that if we had an award ceremony for the last 5 years it should be cancelled as there is nothing to celebrate in being the best turd in the bowl
He's much better than that and has been a big part of every decent run we've had. He's not good enough to cause a team to be decent on his own.

Yeah people didn’t rate him because him and Keane put in some of the worst defensive displays we’ve ever seen when paired together. Also Keane being a mainstay in our team for the last 5 years isn’t saying anything because we’ve been a car crash for the last 5 years.
This is basically the opposite of how I remember that Silva year. Defensive specialists that side.

Michael Keane is the same as James Tarkowski or Ben Mee, a player who can do well when asked to consistently head balls away from his box but none of them have a positional understanding fit to make them a top class CB. He has some good attributes but every player at PL level does. He is not fit to elevate a team on his own and he should not be close to being a first choice starter CB in a team wanting to win things.

Keane, Tarkowski and Mee can do a job in a good team as a second centre back alongside a real leader but any less and you get what we have, mixed performances.

He's been our best CB over the last 5 years. That's not even a troll or joke. The only other candidates are Mina who hasn't played nearly enough or Zouma who was here one season and (bizarrely) people didn't rate.

Mina is better but doesnt play enough.

Keane is very hot or cold, but has been very good the last couple of games.

It's funny how Zat doesn't learn. You'll find posts of him saying build around Holgate, then Godfrey (who he hasn't given up on yet but will do once someone else is in the frame) and now it'll be Branthwaite (who I rate too but it is EARLY) with no awareness of how he's making the same mistake and jumping the gun. Potential is great but you need substance too. Players rarely go from below average or championship level to world class.

Meanwhile Michael Keane continues to be our rock. It's a shame we've not put a useful team together since 2019.
Michael Keane is a rock in terms of mobility. But that's the extent of the similarity.

Selling Keane and Mina frees up around £200k p/w in wages and brings in around £50m.

Stay with me on this, it's about to get crazy.

We could use some of that money to bring in a new CB.
Ok… not denying the obvious merit in that .. however who is available that can step in (directly) into the starting 11 that is a long term investment and short term improvement ?
I’d ask Marcel but he was binned
