Do we people seriously think we’re selling Mina and keane?
Keane won’t be going.
The club is deep in the mire, financially speaking. We need to recoup some transfer fees and try to get a spiralling wage bill under control. if we don't, we will continue to record heavy losses (admittedly they will reduce over time) and continue to be curtailed by Prem spending rules.
Selling the likes of Digne, Mina and Keane (high earners, still under 30, still in long contracts) is preferable to selling the likes of Gray, DCL and Richarlison (young, exciting, creative, goalscorers). Why? Because Digne, Mina and Keane have peaked. They are currently the best they're ever going to be and regardless of whether that level is good enough or not, we as a club are not in a position to take advantage of it on the field.
Sell them, bring in new, younger defenders and help the club heal financially. This buys time, which allows us to keep Gray, DCL and Richarlison for longer - they're all 24 / 25 years old so we should be aiming to keep them for three more seasons AND making sure they all have 2+ years left on their contracts at that point (so that when they are 27 / 28, and at their peaks, their contract situations benefit us if we need to sell them).
Like it or not we are currently a selling club due to five years + of awful financial mismanagement. So let's sell the guys who are at their peak value and keep the guys who are going to get even better. Obviously if we could shift some of the other high-earning dead wood that would be massively helpful, but the likelihood of selling the bulk of Tosun, Gomes, Gbamin, Sigurdsson and Delph in one window for any sort of decent money is very low.
