Keane has never played for a decent side in his entire career, what is the reason for that?

Michael Keane is the same as James Tarkowski or Ben Mee, a player who can do well when asked to consistently head balls away from his box but none of them have a positional understanding fit to make them a top class CB. He has some good attributes but every player at PL level does. He is not fit to elevate a team on his own and he should not be close to being a first choice starter CB in a team wanting to win things.

Keane, Tarkowski and Mee can do a job in a good team as a second centre back alongside a real leader but any less and you get what we have, mixed performances.

I think he is a decent enough B side of a CB pairing. Inconsistent when playing alongside a Godfrey or a Holgate but when alongside a better/more experienced partner he will be solid enough. I would bin off Holgate which will leave Mina, Keane, Godfrey and JB and see what is possible in the summer re trading Mina for someone more reliable

But that's not true?

Look he's not the greatest player in the world but there also is no reason to be looking to move on our one CB who is both a PL level player and more than occasionally fit.

Keane can be decent enough and is rarely out. Id rather keep Mina, hes the better player, but hes often injured. If we can get a vocal CB capable of organizing the defence, Keane will do better. When hes asked to be the leader, it usually goes bad.

From the red echo, the following are being sought to be offloaded in winter and there’s some mind boggling (estimated) wages to be freed up if they all go

Delph £90k
Kenny £20k
Digne = £120k
JPG = £75k (loan)

Exc Digne equals £260k / week for squad fillers who on the whole don’t get a sniff of 1st team action. Surely we can attract a RB & CMF who are first choice with that sort of money sloshing around, even if only on loan for now.

Keane can’t run, can’t play in a back 3, is mentally weak, gives the ball away often, turns too slowly, reacts too slowly to danger, jumps too late, closes his eyes, and doesn’t pick up his man in the area….but apart from all of that yeah he’s ok.
