Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Just to give the lad a bit of a break... Dental abcesses can be serious. I doubt this is him saying "gaffer, I can't play because I've got toothache". He will have been advised by the medical team that he can't play.
The lad has had more breaks than schoolkids during the pandemic.

That said he is my favourite player and I for one forgive his absence for toothache related problems.

This.

We are really lacking in depth, all across the park. We have a lot of players on the payroll who simply aren't good enough to contribute at PL level with any reliable consistency, which is terrifying when you think of the sheer volume of dead wood that has been tossed away in the last two or three summers.

Any injury to Doucouré or Allan would absolutely cripple us - just like they did last year. We need a decent 3rd CM, to allow for a regular rotation. If we have created the wiggle room to spend the money, I'd love to see us go for Kalvin Phillips in January (almost zero chance, I know) or, if we have to wait until the summer, McTominay from Utd. Given the financial straits we appear to be in however it will almost certainly have to be a loan, in which case a younger player with an option to buy would be a better move - one of the many names previously bandied about from the French League perhaps, someone with some genuine creativity to their game. Whatever we do in January re CM, we also need to buy another one in the summer because that's when Delph goes and his wages come off the books.

Not going to dwell on RB. We need a new one, that's it. Coleman can still do an occasional job in a rotation, but he's running on fumes.

We also need someone to rotate with Townsend on the right - there's simply no option in the squad to play in that area if he is injured. Ideally a younger player comes in with a view to genuinely challenging for the starting spot, and I say that as someone who has been impressed with Townsend thus far.
Imagine how much them 2 you have named would cost, Philips is now an England regular. 70/80mil and Utd will add their ( we’re a great team tax) to Mctominay. Personally I wouldn’t want either both overrated. You could easily but someone from abroad for half the price, with maybe more potential.

Kamara from Marseille. 21 out of contract in the summer. Could get him cheap in January. Also Rafael has said we will have money in January. Obviously the club are probably hoping they can shift a few out as well.

Keep seeing Ramsey links and its prob bs but God i hope not. That move to Juve was madness a 1 in 6 injury prone player.

Reports saying Everton are his preferred choice but he's prob just heard our physio team are the most experienced in the pl and wants some of that.

Ideally in centre mid we go for Kamara and Kessie on pre contracts in Jan and hope one of them comes off

I'd question that "all players" look like they are running in treacle without a preseason. But let's just say his treacle has been in the fridge.
Well we can agree to disagree. In my view, pre season is essential for fitness and missing it takes ages to recover from.

….if he’s been training he should be fit from a cardio perspective, match fitness is lots about timing, touch and contact. The physicality of contact is something that might take it out of him.

I thought I read he’d had Covid and if that is true it would be much more of a reason for his form so far.
iIf true, that could be a significant contributor.

Oscar Mingueza who plays for Barcelona is a player we should take a closer look at. He is in the right age group, can play both center back and right back. It is not long since he signed a new contract with Barcelona, but has already been linked with Real Betis, and Barcelona's finances are quite red.

Another one we should monitor the situation of is Dejan Kulusevski (Juventus).

Weren’t we tentatively linked the other young centre back Arajo ( spelling)

Kulusevski would be interesting, again I’m sure we were linked before he went to juve. Would suit the number 10 role, that Rafael seems to like amd can play wide. Maybe a deal with Kean

Yes, we have been linked to both. Mingueza seems more realistic right now, and Kulusevski is in and out of the team at Juventus. Spurs have been linked with Kulusevski recently.

If he played and its a big if, he would make a big difference.
