Brands wanted Dumfries. That's the only surefire thing about that Athletic comment.

No, he/she (I still think it's Benitez's wife) told us that he had personally phoned him. Probably, now it will turn out that they only discussed the weather in Naples.
So, Ancelotti phones Jamez and he comes here, FSW phones Insigne and he joins the mighty Toronto instead of us. Quite a respected man, yeah...

Wanting someone and actually getting them are 2 different things unfortunately.

Two young full backs exactly what we needed, patience is key with both for different reasons, clever play now is to keep Digne as well.

We could do with a number 10 and possibly another wide option. Id expect Lingard and Couthino links, going on. Would love Raphinha, but thats not realistic.

Id be all over Eddie Nketiah to, good player and to good an opportunity not to be in for him.

Do you think if he had the choice he would hand pick Patterson? I think not he was on a list drawn up by Brands, Mykolenko linked for eighteen months before Benitez was even our manager. These are club signings if you ask me.

I actually agree with @BlueToff in the sense that Benitez is to blame for not keeping Digne in the squad to ensure his value didnt drop.

But why play him if hes crossed a line and / or we need to sell him to generate funds for new players.

To give balance to the team and to win desperately needed points.

We're spending cash on players at Benitez's request on his targets...some are trying to convince themselves that someone else is buying them because him buying them contradicts their hope of an early Benitez dismissal.
