Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Yeah, that's kind of basic stuff. I think most of our players have that desire. They're just in a shape that is totally wrong and half of them don't have a clue what they're doing. So again, being 'hungry' only gets you so far.

Dom won loads of first balls the other day but had no players within 30 yards of him because the system was wrong. Nothing to do with the lads being hungry or not. It's a phrase that winds me up tbh.

Disagree. A lot of our players cannot be arsed shape or no shape. That's why we get overrun often and why teams like Leeds buzz round us for 90 mins nipping at our heels.

Pickford
Kenny
Keane
Holgate
Coleman
Allan
Doucoure
Gray
Gordon
Dom

That was our starting XI the other day. Which one out of those lot would anyone say doesn't put effort in/isn't hungry?

Allan lunges about and puts too much effort in if anything, leaving his position. Doucoure covers every blade of grass and tries to cover 3 roles. Coleman always tries, he just can't do it anymore. Kenny tries, he's just crap. Dom tries, Gray and Gordon worked and dragged us back into it in the second half. Pickford tries. Godfrey tries. Even Keane tries, he's just awful.

The only one you could even suggest is actually 'phoning it in' would be Holgate but I don't think that's the case either. He's just stagnated and needs a move.

So is 'being hungry' the actual issue?

See my next post where I listed the starting XI from the other day.

Not sure your Leeds comment stands up either. We did them earlier in the season and really should have won. Did them last season away from home. And at home Ancelotti tried to go toe-to-toe with them and then got punished for that, albeit we were inches away from having two goals (still makes me sad that mega James one got disallowed but such is life).

What made Leeds hungry? It was Bielsa coming in and stamping his authority on it. Most of their squad were there when he arrived. So again, it's the manager that's the main thing here.

I guess it depends, if Besiktas will only pay a small % of his wage, then that probably doesn’t let us go out and loan in another player to cover him going out. Tosun is probably 4th choice behind DCL, Richarlison, Dobbin for the striker position, maybe even Simms. So you could argue that we don’t need to replace him directly and that could be true, but we could do with freeing the wages up, even if it’s not for that position, so we could get maybe another midfielder. At the moment we are probably in a strong position to say, either someone buys him out of his contract or covers all his wages till the end of his contract, it’s still early in the window and anything is possible.
You are right of course. I just want shut of him!

Surely a signing on payment and normal wages (no idea what Turkish contracts are worth but I assume it's still insane at low te s of thousands per week for the national team's striker) will get is off the hook for a significant chunk, if not all, of what we were due to pay him.

Add into that going home, which means he's not shelling out yo be here and maintaining a home in Turkey, and actually playing, then he'd be daft not to.

Mind you I think this every transfer window with Tosun.

They're all young and hungry until people decide they aren't. There are posters on here who've praised the signings of virtually the whole squad and said that Brands was changing the structure and mentality and all that bollocks but now they've decided that was wrong (not that they'll admit it) and it's Benitez who's doing it now and these players they've never seen kick a ball are definitely hungry and just what we need. They're just buzzwords it means nothing.

Should one look at in terms of skill?

The manager is always hungry so maybe he wants that to rub off on the player's, worked with Rondon, have you seen the size of him?
Hahah!

Well actually though, that's another one.

Rondon genuinely is hungry. I don't think he ever hasn't tried. He's just awful. An awful footballer who should never have been brought in.

Look at Spurs. Their fans were screaming about how it was the players and not just Nuno (even though they wanted Nuno gone). Suddenly an actual good manager comes in and oh look they all have that extra half a yard, they all know their jobs. It makes doing things like winning second balls a lot easier.

Precisely.

Absolutely can do. I'm not even putting that up for debate because those players aren't up to scratch in that sense, although they aren't this incapable.

The one thing I do agree with Benitez on is when he says the commitment is there. I think in most games, some obvious examples aside, it has been. But that just makes it more obvious how wrong he's getting everything else.

I get that. It's just a phrase that winds me up.

I'd say Ben Godfrey is an extremely 'hungry' player. But he's playing dreadfully at the moment.

If they're not managed/coached properly then it means nothing.
Of course we need quality but quality is irrelevant if the mentality is not there. We have players with technical ability but you cant display your ability if you aren't willing to compete and get the better of your opposite number.

I hate watching this Everton side because they are outworked and outfought and outthought nearly every week.

Its players and coaching. If we set up properly then we will compete better but then there is a lack of personal responsibility too. I see midfielders bottle challenges and defenders get bullied in the air every week. The club is just a total joke a d the softest of soft touches.

Nah he’s right. We don’t sign up and coming players keen to make a name for themselves that see us as a step up anywhere near enough.

The front 3, usually Doucoure and the goalkeeper are the only players who seem to have a good mentality in that line up.

Allan is so bad these days that its probably harsh to question his attitude as well. He is just rubbish.

That could be summarised in one word, Outplayed.
