Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

I'm assuming by 'get our money back' you mean in any future sale price for Longstaff, but whose to say anyone would buy him? Iwobi was bought for £35m and the only "saving grace" seems to be the notion we might get a third of that back in any sale, but no one is interested in him. Obviously a £1m transfer fee with sensible wages is hardly a club-killer, and might not be the worst bit of business in the world, but chances are -like Iwobi- he could be just another deadwood player we're stuck with, giving contract renewals to because we can't shift them and we don't want to let them go on a free despite adding nothing to the squad/team.

Totally agree mate, just trying to work out a positive to what is really a very poor acquisition, if he comes here, but as noted doesn't kill the bank account, and someone like Forrest Green or Plymouth would buy him for a million :) in 18 months time

Yeah I hear you, I get your point, but you just know the minute this turnip is on a decent contract, he's going to sit it out for every penny and would not take a significant step down. (Hard to sell players who don't want to be sold).

I'd rather us not sign him at all because I don't think he adds anything and is a country mile from being better than what we've got. I don't think I'd want him even on a free, because we'd be tied up in wages for years. But I'd bet it'll absolutely happen.

If at the end of the window our business is:
In -
Mykolenko for ~17m
Patterson for ~12m
Brennan Johnson for ~12m
Longstaff for ~7m

Out:
Holgate for ~7m
Digne for about 25m

Are we content? Obviously nobody wants to lose Digne but that ship has sailed. Coming in we have 3 young players with potential and Longstaff all on fairly reasonable fees.
If we pay £7m for Longstaff we might as well pack it in.

How do you know he’s an idiot if you don’t listen to him? He may be a genius, he may be a total tosser, I don’t know, because I don’t listen to him either. Therefore I am unable to hold an informed opinion of him. Isn’t that how it works?
You dont have to listen to him constantly to know he's an utter bellend.

A spiv with a big grid.

Bit of a difference in the transfer fees for players probably at the same level. At least there may be some improvement in longstaff

Maybe Longstaff might improve. Maybe we'll be stuck with yet another bang-average Championship level player on the books for 4-5 years. Freebie or £35m, we should be avoiding garbage, not signing it.

Wouldn’t disagree but was merely making a comparison. Would much prefer we bought 2 fifty million pound quality players but not happening !

Yeah I get your point. I'm not sure there's much more indicative of just how far we've fallen than debating whether or not signing a squad player from a [currrently] 19th placed and previously relegated team is a good idea or not. Jesus wept.
