Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

I am not sure of many 28 year old full backs that have gone for more than £25m. I'm happy to be proven wrong on that, but I'm not aware of any.

The club has been criticised a fair bit for transfer dealings, but I think we did well with that. No not optimally but we did well.

We seem to have a big thing about selling players, but honestly loads of club in our boat do it all the time. Leverkusen will sell a left back to Frankfurt or whatever and move forward.
Good post this. While i disliked the way it was handled, i think it was a good move. It's allowed us to move on a high earner and bring in 2 replacements for largely an equivalent fee and likely reduction in wages.

My worry is we've not strengthened at LB but replaced an established player (with usually high output) with a player unused to the PL and who will take time to adjust. I think we might see Godfrey start there for a while yet.

With El Ghazi I see no risk involved with it.

We've done good business so far, whoever is currently managing it - if it's Benitez then he deserves some credit.

The key will be the remaining time - can we move in 1 or 2 more and bring in a CB and DM of good calibre, then it will look like a very good January.

Not into dele Alli shouts, a perfect example of a young player making it big early, getting a huge contract and has lost the desire and drive that got him there. He is more interested in off field stuff and his brand/image.

Good post, recruitment with Rondon and Lonergan would appear good, only time will tell, unfortunatelly for RB he just isnt capable of getting results.

Many will point to a steady decline BUT it has fallen off a cliff this season, even previous managers have got better results, and that the sign of a good manager isnt it. Carlo could set a side up for results with injuries whereas Benitez needs all the best players fit, that is why he has been crying so much about injuries, better managers find a way to adapt in the meantime, as we have seen.

Since liverpool he has taken every team hes managed in those last 14 years backwards from where they were in the league the previous season.

Hes a genuinely terrible manager but it seems as if he's here for the long run unfortunately.

Carlo won 3 of the last 13 with hardly any injuries if we are being honest

Think we find out today if he starts mykolenko the can see him starting dor rest of season. Agree if he can get some more in then you look at the squad and it had improved. As you say of we get another 1/2 in would be good but the club must make sure have the right quality ad we need players who can make an impact. If el ghazi was the last player in after cb/cm for more options i think alot more of us would have taken the deal better

I know there are rumours about meddling and agent involvement, which is speculative. I understand the worry regarding that, but regarding the actual terms I don't really understand why it's been taken badly.

I was when was saying deal was 15 mill which just looks like other deals from the past we have overpaid from. Not saying i am a big fan of him but do think he can offer something from the bench as gives us more natural width. Would expect the club to be looking for a better winger after this season

Always best to wait for the details

I honestly disagree mate and im not trying to be contrary, i just think its a bad deal.

I think Wood is very relvent, i mean its the first full week in the market and we sold our prized asset in the first few days, Newcastle were interested. If he didn't want go there fine, show a bit of steel of steel with the player and buying club and say, this is what we can get from Newcastle if you want to go to Villa, you and your agent sort it out. One of many examples of how we could negotiate and use league, instead we blew our load and sold one of our best players for what is my opinion a below average fee. If your buying one of the best full back in the league which Digne is - you are paying more than 25 millon- of to be more specific a deal that could rise to 25 million.

There just isnt a point were anyone is going to convince me this is a good deal, every way i look at it its poor and i think the club have been poor with it. This club is broken. Imagine it was Moyes involved in this deal, he would have known the players worth and the players worth to Everton. Recuritment in and out of this club is so so poor and damaging.
Hmmm, mate, that's the same Moyes that sold arteta on deadline day for a pittance with zero time to find a replacement, sold Graveson when we where flying half way through the season and barely hung on to 4th after a second half of the season collapse, or who sold Rooney, the best player of his generation as a teenager for a ridiculously low fee?

Dele Ali doesn't link the play either he is more of a second striker from what Benny said he is looking for a ten with mobility who can link midfield and attack that describes the likes of Ramsey/Barkley/RLC/Golovan more than Ali.

I'm honestly not surprised, he is one of the most talented attacking players in Europe. He would cost them a lot of money, but could see an offer coming in.
Gordon? He's a kid. He has a lot of potential and talent he is developing nicely, but "one of the most talented attacking players in Europe" slight over estimation?!

Digne's market value was definitely more than the £23m we've got

23m that we got 'up front' the deals worth in actuality more than that as you know mate.

And here's the thing, why was it?

If it was then strange zero other team even matched vilas offer - you'd think if he was worth more then surely why didn't another club come in?

Assuming you're ballparking his value at 30-35m, who in honesty is paying that figure mate, and where're
the similar deals in the past few years that show that's a real valuation.

Overall there's two massive issues in the side, center back and centre mid,

We have nobody in the center who can actually get on the ball and dictate play meaning we look poor when trying to play possession so end up only creating anything on the counter which normally bye passes midfield and goes straight via Gray, Gordon or Richy.

CB we look solid when Mina plays and totally inept when he doesn't, for whatever reason the other three can't organise a back line Keane is a decent second cb but when he's the main hes woeful just crumbles.ubder the pressure, Holgate is crap whoever he plays with so we basically have one cb whose still young with the chance to improve.
